Mullet Man 2,114
Its just plain horrible IMO. I have to use a major grip adjustment to reach it and its difficult if you don't get good cover on it when trying to push it. Who's upgraded their mag button and what do you think of what you used? Shandlanos 1,470
My EDC G23C has an extended magazine release, that came with the pistol. Not sure who made it, but other than sticking out a bit further than the OEM release, it's pretty much identical to factory.
Juggernaut 11,054
Indeed.. especially for southpaws...
MT Predator 2,294
Extended Glock releases work, so do Vickers ones.
dashowdy 141
I feel your pain, I am a man with medium small hands and my favorite handgun is my g20, while the oe extended release helps some it still requires some movement to drop a mag. Not a huge deal but I have had glocks so long this is a mute point for me now. I couldn't even reach the release on my gen 4 23 without changing grip, I could reach it but not enough pressure to release. Hence now I carry M&Ps since they fit my smallish hands better. sucks being a tall lanky guy with smallish hands.
sunnybean 939
Don't go with the super extended one that has a bolt on button. That, IMHO, is too big. I had one and would unexpectedly drop mags because I wouldn't hit it on accident too easily.
Mullet Man 2,114
I was looking at the Ghost Inc. extended releases. He has two versions, a low profile "bolt/snap on" button and a larger oval shaped bolt on type setup. The larger one looks ridiculous and sticks out quite a ways like you said sunnybean. I think its a toss up between the low pro Ghost piece and a factory extended button that doesn't solve the grip change issue. I guess i'm just used to the FNP45's large and use friendly button. dashowdy 141
The M&P's have spoiled me and I fondled an FNS and was digging it quite a bit but I think a G29 will be in my future hopefully. I dont worry to much about the grip movement because it does not slow me down any it is just second nature now. The glock Oe piece is fine just sand the fun edges off because that thing can poke ya. P.S. I am a 10mm fanboy so glock will be in my stable forever because of it, they kept the caliber alive thus I can enjoy it today, hell main reason I started reloading. JESS1344 508
GUYS, A CAUTION FOR ANYONE RUNNING WHOMEVERS EXTENDED MAG RELEASE IN COMBINATION WITH THE BLACKHAWK CQC HOLSTER WORN STRONG SIDE MUZZLE FORWARD, OR CROSSDRAW BUTT FORWARD AS A "DRIVERS HOLSTER". AS SEEN BELOW, THE END OF THE EXTENDED MAG RELEASE WILL BE VERY CLOSE TO ONE OF THE RAISED BOSSES THAT ONE OF THE PADDLE-TO-HOLSTER SCREWS LIVES IN. SHOULD YOU BUMP INTO SOMETHING WITH THE GUN/HOLSTER, FALL DOWN, GUN-SIDE DOWN, SOMEONE INTENTIONALLY BUMP YOUR GUN/HOLSTER, ETC., ETC., THE MAGAZINE RELEASE WILL BE ACTIVATED, DISLODGING THE MAGAZINE. I TAKE A SMALL SANDING DRUM IN THE DREMEL, AND GRIND DOWN INTO THIS BOSS, WITH SUFFICIENT DEPTH THAT THERE'S NO WAY THAT THE END OF THE MAG RELEASE CAN TOUCH THAT AREA, SEE BELOW. JESS1344 YOU CAN SEE THE CUT OUT JUST UNDERNEATH MY THUMB IN THIS PIC THE END OF THE MAG RELEASE IS ACTUALLY FARTHER AWAY FROM THE SCREW BOSS THAN IT WOULD NORMALLY BE, BECAUSE I HAVE PLACED THE BLACKHAWK TAPERED SPACER (P/N 411400CBK), SEEN AT THE END OF MY THUMB, BETWEEN THE PADDLE AND HOLSTER BODY. SUBTRACT THE THICKNESS OF THE SPACER, AND YOU CAN SEE HOW CLOSE THE END OF THE MAG RELEASE WOULD BE TO THE SCREW BOSS. I'M USING THE CQC AS A DRIVERS HOLSTER AND THE TAPERED WEDGE PITCHES THE GUN BUTT OUT JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE IT EASIER TO OBTAIN A FULL FIRING GRIP. THE OTHER ONE IS WORN IWB IN A SUMMER SPECIAL AND VIRTUALLY UNREACHABLE WHEN BELTED-IN. A CLOSE-UP. THE SHARPNESS OF THE CORNERS OF THE MAG RELEASE WAS MENTIONED, ESPECIALLY NOTICABLE ON THE EXTENDED VERSION. I'LL TAKE A METAL NAIL FILE WITH THE ABRASIVE SURFACE AND TAKE THE CORNERS DOWN TO A MORE ROUNDED AND THUMB-FRIENDLY SHAPE. I'LL ALSO BEVEL THE EDGES. I SHOOT WITH LOW THUMBS, AND WILL CURL THE FIRST JOINT MY LEFT THUMB OVER THE TOP AND DOWN THE FRONT, SLIGHTLY, OF THE MAG RELEASE. UNMODIFIED, THIS IS SUFFICIENTLY PAINFUL, UNDER RECOIL, TO ALMOST BE A DISTRACTION. THE CORNER: THE EDGE: THE VICKERS MAG RELEASE WAS MENTIONED, HE ALSO HAS A DESIGN FOR A SLIDE STOP, IMHO, THE BEST AND MOST ERGONOMIC SLIDE STOP I'VE LAID THUMB TO, THUS FAR. THEY'RE ON EACH OF MY GLOCKS. SIDE VIEW: IN PROFILE: NOTE THE SLIGHT INWARD CURVE ON THE BOTTOM SIDE THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE RADIUS OF THE TOP EDGE OF YOUR THUMB. COMBINED WITH THE PROMINENT GROOVING THIS ASSISTS IN THE POSITIVE MANIPULATION OF THE SLIDE STOP. THE SHELF TOPSIDE, WHILE STILL LOW PROFILE IS MORE THAN SUFFICIENT TO DROP THE SLIDE, EVEN WHILE GLOVED.
JESS1344 508
GUYS, BTW, THE MOST ERGONOMIC MAG RELEASE I'VE TRIED COMES ON LONE WOLF'S TIMBERWOLF FRAME, SEE PICS BELOW. LONE WOLF ALSO OFFERS THIS SAME CATCH FOR INSTALLATION ON YOUR FRAME. AVAILABLE FOR ALL SIZED GLOCKS AT $14.95 PLUS A NOMINAL $35.00 INSTALLATION FEE. CHECK THEIR W-SITE UNDER PARTS - LONE WOLF - LWD MAG CATCH. HAVEN'T HAD IT DONE ON ANY OF MINE, AS THE EXTENDED FACTORY MODEL WORKS FOR ME. JESS1344 PICKED UP A GEN II G22 A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO FROM CDNN FOR $299.00. STRIPPED ALL OF THE PARTS OUT OF THE FRAME, PLUS ADDED ALL THE ENHANCED PARTS I PUT ON MINE, AND PUT THEM ON THE TIMBER WOLF FRAME. AN EXTENDED PORTED .357SIG BBL., FROM LONE WOLF, AND A NEW SET OF NIGHT SIGHTS FOR THE UPPER UNIT FINISHED 'ER OFF. .40 AND .357SIG GLOCK MAGS WILL FEED EITHER. I USE THE RAISED BACK STRAP. A CLOSE-UP OF THE CATCH ITSELF AS YOU CAN SEE, THE REARWARD EXTENDING MAG CATCH FALLS READILY TO THE THUMB. ALL THAT'S NECESSARY TO ACTIVATE THE MAG RELEASE, IS TO RETRACT YOUR THREE FINGERS TO THE POINT THAT THE FIRST JOINTS ARE ON THE FRONT STRAP, WHICH ALLOWS THE GUN TO PIVOT IN THE WEB OF YOUR HAND JUST ENOUGH TO EASILY ACTIVATE THE MAG RELEASE. DROP THE EMPTY MAG, RUN THE LOADED ONE HOME, SLIDE YOUR FINGERS BACK INTO PLACE, THE GUN PIVOTS BACK IN PLACE, DROP THE SLIDE, SHOOT AS/AND IF NECESSARY. YOU NEVER EVEN BREAK YOUR GRIP, AT LEAST IN MY HANDS. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.
Arik 565
I own a bunch of Glocks and Im a lefty. Never had any problems. I just use my trigger finger
dashowdy 141
I wish they would make a timberwolf for the 10mm or find and sf frame or gen 4 frame as a secondary.
