Source for crush washer for marrel attachment?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning out two conversions, and three barrel therading projects.  I have three muzzle breaks, but will probably want to leave one with just a thread protector so I can use it with a suppressor.

Anyway, my question is about the split ring crush washer I've seen some people use.  Where does one get the split ring washer to put under a threaded brake to keep it secure?  I haven't seen it listed in any place under conversion parts but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.  I also heard some people say they just bought a spark plug or something, which size woudl that be?  If the washer is available at the hardware store, what's the correct measurement?

I prefer a standard crush washer.

This is not a split ring washer, this is a cone washer, it will however generally allow for indexing of most attachments.

If you want a split ring washer, you can purchase a 5/8" ID ( yes, it works) split ring washer at almost any hardware store.

They even come in good'ol black.

I just threaded my 7.62x39 Saiga barrel using the crush washer from www.carolinashooterssupply.com that ChileRelleno mentioned and installed a slant brake.

I put the "cone" side of the crush washer toward the buttstock and the "bowl" or more flat-looking recessed side toward the muzzle.

Also, I had to make about a 1/3 turn against the crush washer to get mine properly indexed. I had to torque it some but it's secure. I've read that you don't really want to do more than a 3/4 turn with a crush washer because it can put too much stress on the barrel or threaten the threads due to excessive torqueing or something along those lines.

If you hand-tighten your muzzle device against the crush washer and need more than a 3/4 turn to get it properly indexed, maybe try a different washer (peel, split)or file/dremel/grind off some thickness of your crush washer.
