Stock Suggestions for a x39 w/ POSP 4x24

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I'm looking for suggestions here. Right now I'm running a fixed Warsaw length KVAR stock. My problem is that the scope is a bit too far forward to easily use my right eye, and left eye usage is too difficult for me to do when quickly shouldering the rifle. Probably left eye would work fine on a 308 style longer range rifle, but on a battle rifle like this, I'm just not sure it would work out in the field well.

I'm either thinking of:

  1. Switching out the stock for a Tapco collapsible to see if the shorter length helps
  2. Getting rid of the POSP and getting a tech-sight rear peep sight

So far I really like the POSP, other than the problem of craning my neck down and forward so much. Right now if I set the stock on top of my shoulder, it's about perfect, but I can't think of a stock that would even look like the shape it would need to be for that to work.

Im getting the Canis AR extension adapter. It is secured by two bolts in the side of the receiver, so better than most. You also dont need to cut the tang. This will put the stock high for alot of uses, but I need the height for my 2.5-10x56 Weaver. There are just SO many AR15 stocks out there, its impossible you wont find one comfortable for your use.

For the price of an AR extension tube and stock, I was thinking of just getting the Bonesteel collapsible folding stock. Supposed to lock up very tight, and total cost is at $150.

The only reason I was thinking Tapco initially was for ~$50 I could try out the length and idea and make sure I really liked the AR collapsible style stock and that it fit. The Tapco also looks pretty decent compared to their folder. Right now I have the Intrafuse handguard on with a rail and it seems pretty good, but mostly because no moving parts I guess.

I have the bonesteel collapsible/folding with a magpul ctr, love it. Locks up super tight, and from what ive read if i want to swap it out for their triangle version all ill need is the actual stock, the folding mech is the same.

As LuPiN8oR said, Magpul's CTR is great.  I run CTR (milspec) with the VLTOR adapter.  No cutting, works great.  If you're concerned about price I would definitely go with Magpul over Tapco...aside from their mags I have not been impressed with Tapco's furniture, and the CTR should only run you about $60.

For the cost of the magpul and vltor, I was thinking of just going with the bonesteel folder. Seems about the same price, although I suppose I should go with the buffer tube folding hinge and attach the CTR. Any reason to not go folding? Other than I'd probably rarely use it...

The main reason to try the tapco was $50 or less used instead of $150+ for the Magpul route.

Not sure of your question. I have a Nato  Kvar and run the Kalinka POSP 4X, without issue! Eye relief is fine and "no " it is not a cheek weld but closer to a cheek/chin weld but not an issue and fully functional!

What in particular is the issue you have!

To state again from my original post, my head has to move down a lot and forward if compared to where my head would be naturally with the rifle shouldered. If compared to where my cheek is for iron sights, it needs to go UP and forward...a lot. Either way this is very uncomfortable for all but about 5 seconds or so. Maybe enough to take a shot quickly, but not enough to really do anything decent.

This is all assuming I'm shooting off-hand. Prone or bench rest is slightly different and I can usually figure out a way to rest the front of the gun, but to me an AK isn't a bench rest gun and should point naturally. It really seems that it's made for the iron sights or possibly a different stock or different build person.

Right now I can still use the scope with my left eye comfortably, but it certainly doesn't come naturally or quickly, and it seems as if the glass isn't as clear because of the angle my eyeball is at (or maybe it's my left eye!).

In any of the cases, something has to change for it to be optimal for me.

This may not be what you want to hear but I have one solution. I'm interested in purchasing the scope from you.

I think I'll have to try out the collapsible stock first. If that doesn't work the scope will be for sale for sure!

Other than the positioning of the scope it's awesome, and looks really cool...I would really hate to get rid of it :(

Only thing I can think of is for you to learn how to shoulder/get the "chin/cheek" weld down, or give up the POSP! For me with many rounds down range it is not an issue. The Russians must have a different version of "proper cheek weld" than we do in the USA!

Like I stated before it is not the cheek weld that many of us in the US are used to. Once I understood this I have no issue whatsoever with the POSP. Also I do not have to crane my neck down to get a good picture. Did your POSP come with the rubber eye piece? Having that easily got me to the correct spot on the butt stock! I don't even use it anymore, now that I am trained on where to go with it!

Best of luck in you choices!

I just put the bonesteel left side folder on my x39 and I love it, it locks up tight with no slop at all. I have a CSS fixed aluminum ar style buffer tube on my .308 and its great, it also sits higher than standard ak stocks so it might be what u need. I use magpul ctr stocks on my saigas and you can get cheek risers that snap on snug they have 1/4"-3/4" risers.
