Garys4598 1,065
Last year after trading my H&K P7 PSP pistol for an Imbel 5.56 FAL rifle, I've been on the hunt for a replacement 9mm pistol. As luck and timing would have it. . . this past week I was fortunate to score a Walther P5 Compact pistol which a previous owner had hard chromed. Additionally, I was lucky to identify a seller of P5C magazines and acquired three (I plan on purchased two more to bring my mag count up to six). These magazines can be more difficult to locate than the handguns themselves. Some folks portent that the Walther P5 pistol (and the P5 Compact specifically) was the finest pistol ever designed by Carl Walther GmbH. . . well, I'm not here to debate that; I'm simply sharing the handgun with you. Pictures can convey a thousand words so, I'll let the following pics speak for themselves regarding this particular uniquely designed piece of German engineering. I've ordered Nill Griffe walnut thumb rest grips to replace the OEM plastic grips, and I'm presently deciding on what holster system to go with. ~Gary

YOT 3,743
Aww man.... you got a scratch on the magazine. Seriously, nice pistol. You don't waste money on junk, do ya!
Garys4598 1,065
I received two additional P5C magazines today, which brings my total count to six. Next week I'll be shipping five of them off to get hard chromed so that they match the pistol. After that. . . it's an indefinite wait for whenever the Nill Griffe wood grips arrive from Germany. gunfun 3,931
Very interesting. I see it has the Walther link system. Does the barrel sit as if fixed or does it pivot?

Best that I can tell. . . it sits as though its fixed. The barrel does move backward and forward a wee-bit during cycling. Edited February 8, 2014 by Gary
gunfun 3,931
Yeah. I got impatient and looked up on wiki. It does slide. I had read that the beretta 92 and derivatives copied the link from a walther design. They look almost interchangable there, and my PT 99 barrel moves only in a straight line, with the barrel only supported by the hole in the slide. I'm sure that odd block on the barrel allows less play, but it had to add significantly to the machining costs and tolerance requirements. Have you looked at the stealth gear holsters? Have you looked at the stealth gear holsters? I completely agree regarding the complexity of the machining for the barrel. Regarding the Stealth Gear Holsters. . . I'll check them out (never heard of 'em). Presently, I've got a mostly leather shoulder holster inbound from all places, Russia (courtesy of eBay), and a Walther specific shoulder holster likely coming from Germany. Garys4598 1,065
@ GunFun -- I checked out SteathGear Holsters' website and read-up on the ONYX IWB holster. Sounds like a complete winner to me. Alas, after reviewing the list of Walther handgun models they make the ONYX for. . . the Walther P5 and P5 Compact was not mentioned. I've sent the company a message courtesy of their website to learn whether they'd be willing to fabricate a P5 Compact holster for me. Not holding my breath though. . . gunfun 3,931
That's kind of what I expected, but you seem to prefer the best at any cost so stealth gear was exactly what came to mind. I'm wondering how your pistol compares in size to a makarov. It might be possible to order a holster for a makarov and warm up the kydex with a heatgun and form it to your walther. People get pretty good results that way sometimes.
YOT 3,743
CrossBreed doesn't list one of their SuperTucks for it either. It may be worth giving them a call though.
gunfun 3,931
I recently got a decent modular crossbreed clone from alien gear. I'm happy with it. A couple minor quibbles, mostly with their marketing. I've been meaning to do a review video, but I wanted to wear it a bit more first.
Garys4598 1,065
During the course of the last 48 hours I've shared two emails with Tyler of StealthGear Holsters. He's been able to locate a source to procure a 'replica' Walther P5 pistol (which he would obviously use to conform the Onyx IWB holster to). . . but the P5 Compact so far is a no-go. I shared with Tyler that I'd be willing to ship to him my pistol provided he has a FFL. . . but he's yet to respond and I'm assuming he doesn't have the license. I do appreciate Tyler's willingness to at least determine whether or not a custom Onyx holster is possible for me.
