Salps 1
First post here so please bear with me. Anything special about Saiga marked Kalashnikov-USA Port Saint Lucie,FL? Longer barrel 20 1/4. Are they more collectable? Value? Thinking of converting and adding nice scope. Seller said unfired and I can't see any signs of it being so. Looks to a safe queen but has lots of safe marks. Any info would be great. Thanks ScottWill post pics later.
Salps 1
So it's a IZ 133 right? Basically a Saiga Hunter?
imarangemaster 315
They sell for the same price new as a 16", but they actually have a lower resale value, because almost no one wants a 20" barrel AK. The 7.62x39 round is optimized for a 16" barrel, and the extra 4 gains nothing.

That being said, the 20" guns are harder to find.
Salps 1
Will a standard (16 inch barrel) handguard fit a 20 inch barrel rifle?
HighPlainsDrifter 466
Are you talking about a Saiga-M? I bought a bolt on handguard retainer from dinzag and installed a traditional handguard. Confirm your barrel diameter before proceeding.
Salps 1
I don't think it's a Saiga M.

Grinderhead 1
I have the 16" barrel and the 20" barrel saiga and I must say my 20" is more accurate at 100 yards than the 16" and my stock handguards are exactly the same. Salps 1
Ordered all conversion parts, bullet guide and buttstock today. Think I'm hooked... http://www.carolinashooterssupply.com/product_p/rifle-6-kvar-5pc.htm Edited January 18, 2015 by Salps
Grinderhead 1
Be very careful with the tap if you are installing the bullet guide your self. Some suppliers have been known to send low quality taps. many stories on here about taps breaking off in the trunion. You may even consider buying a good quality one from a tool suppier,
Salps 1
I ordered the bullet guide without the drill and tap. Figured I would use my own since I have the good ones. Really looking for someone near me who has drill press and rifle vise to do it right the first time.
Mullet Man 2,114
What's your location? You don't need a drill press, a hand drill will do just fine.

Salps 1
Any thoughts about value of this model? Condition is excellent. I can't find a single one for sale on the Web? Trying to sell but without something to compare it to most people offer a lot less than I value it. Cost of conversion kit was about $175 Thanks Scott
Salps 1
Was offered $850 for it. Not sure if I could get more for it? Seems like if you can't find one for sale anywhere that it would be worth a bit more. The fact that it was made in 1999 and very few where imported.
SGL 530
Not to disappoint you, but I think any collector's value went out the window when the conversion was done.If someone wants something rare, they probably would prefer it to be original. When SLRs are selling brand new for $900, it seems optimistic to expect to get that much for a home converted Saiga unless someone out there really wants the 20" barrel. Salps 1
Well I just might take the $850 and call it good.
imarangemaster 315
I would say you would definitely be ahead to take the $850. As was said, once it was "restored" it has no collector value anymore. The demand (and thus price) was much less for the 20" even though they are scarcer. SaigaFL 4
The question is can you replace this "made in Russian" Saiga with a quality rifle for that price ? Most of us don't expect this ban/EO to ever be lifted. That will make the Saiga's of all flavors sought after even more. If this was my rifle I'd thread the muzzle, file the mag catch to accept 30 rd. mags, and add a quad rail on it for a easy full conversion and value of about $1100. / $1200. Note my Saiga 5.45 shown with full conversion at signature. Edited February 8, 2015 by SaigaFL
