Poland learned some very hard lessons in the 20th century and it could be argued that very few people suffered more than they did under the boots of both Nazis and the Russians. A military runs on 3 things, beans, bullets, and fuel. Remove one and it can't fight. No fuel, it's imobile. No beans, it starves. No bullets, it can't fight.
