  1. This sounds slighly more insane that US gun laws. Leave your logic and the door and come on in!
  2. Mine was NOT soft at all. It did not brake any bits but did totally destroy a couple. Honestly, if I where to do it again I would not bother drilling the block. I can tell no difference at all. But I don't shoot thousands of rounds without cleaning either.
  3. yes 14 x 1 works fine. Would not suprise me a bit if both those listed are the same thing.
  4. A little while back a shipment of .223 20 inch heavier (I would not call it a true heavy) saigas popped up out of nowhere. By the time I found that out all the .223's where gone. Anyone know if they will be making a come back? A .saiga .223 with the barrel dia. of .308 saiga sounds like a darn good project gun to me.
  5. Ya they are Funny thing is that apart from people reading/writing the posts (ie the gun trade) I bet everyone came out happy. Of course I am one of those crazy guys that never fired my saiga unconverted. Purchased as a project gun and total love for the thing.
  6. Ill hunt down the camera and snap a pic or two. As far as the cycling speed, yes it did change it from insane (with hotter ammo) to much nicer. I figured i would try messing with the piston because if i screwed it up a new one would cost me like 20 bucks.
  7. Well yes, at least I think so. I would not suprise me one bit if the .223's are a bit over gassed. On my rifle firing xm193 stuff the recoil/muzzle rise was insane for the caliber. The bolt was just slamming into the trunion with way to much force. You can try a wolff 15% extra force recoil spring. Thats the 1st thing I tried and it did help. More extreme things to do are shave your gas piston down. I ended up taking just a little bit of material on the top and bottom of the gas piston. That had a suprisingly huge effect. Things that dont work or do much is a ported gas block. A
  8. Its the change of poi so far to the right that has me so suprised. A little variation, sure but 50 yards is damned close. While sure a "hit" at 50 yards in the important stuff a total miss at 300 meters. On the other hand I never intend to ever be in a combat situation ever again and my saiga is intended to be a fun gun. As much as my subconscious disagrees.
  9. I was out blasting away last week on 4 hours of sleep, no food, and an inhuman about of coffee. So of course I was shooting like poo. Didnt care had the itch. But......my rifle had been sighted in using cheapo tula and on this trip I had brought some xm193 with me as well. While i expected a change in point of impact vertically (about 2 1/2inch low), I was very suprised to see that in changed over 2 inches to the right at 50 yards. Is this normal for a different loading? Or do I have some issue somewhere in my uber boomstick. Crown perhaps? Not exactly excited to the thought of using d
  10. Ok, 176mm? What the heck is that in inches? 8 inch group or something. Im guessing a major day of F*** it. Well I like vodka too, but i dont go to work that screwed up.
  11. If i remember right mine says 82mm. BUT that number seems to mean little or nothing. Its more of a functions test than an accuracy test. I would ignore that number and just go shoot your rifle a bunch and see what it does.
  12. I discovered aluma hyde and thought geeeee, well I spent my saiga .308 money (again) on something else so back again to the trusty .223 project gun. Now with a flat black and od green finish. Guess you are never really done.
  13. Shit no. If you're east of the continental divide, you're in the Rocky Mountain West. If you're south of Oregon or Idaho in Nevada or Utah, you're in the Great Basin. If you're in CA, you're just in CA. You are certainly not in the NW if you live in a state that's closer to Mexico than Canada. The northwest doesn't claim or want any of you. Yeah, well, you're obviously trying to take this to a new level where it was never meant to go. Take a chill pill, dude. You're taking this too seriously. NO, DOGMAN - IT IS YOU WHO NEEDS A CHILL-PILL. I'M JUST EXERCISING MY GOD-GIVEN
  14. Wow. "I dont care if I scare people." Big ole case of memememe. Well cop #2 seemed cool. He sure didnt have to be. I guess thats why im not a cop, as soon as that guy took that tone I would have smashed his face into a car hood. Legal? Sure, and should be, but common down a busy street in the middle of town? Really? Well since hes having problems getting his ccw I guess hes just taking it out on his community. Crazy? probably not, Stupid? Hell yes.
  15. You have access to factory 30 saiga mags! On this side of the pond we really dont. If somehow one makes it over here its going to cost over 100 bucks. Sure at 57 dollars its steep but unlike a promag its probably not going to break on you. Theres a reason why so many of us have installed bullet guides and use bulgarian 5.56 mags, galil, or whatever will work.
