paprotective 362
Okay.. Took Janis out today to Range 14 in NJ.. They have a 200 yard max distance.. First let me say after 30 rounds my $25 Guntec/CYMA mount broke and litterally flipped off (luckily onto the table) I then went home and grabbed my tried-true UTG 978 QD mount, ate, and went back to the range.. This is what I managed at 200 yards by just turrning the 'CAM' up to 200 yards.. (it goes to 450 yds) Its a 4 shot group... 3 1/2" wide by 2" in height.. Whats that like 1 5/8 MOA?? Now at 100 yard sighting Janis in, I zero'd at 100 yards and then cranked it upto 450 yards on the 'CAM' and it shot about 11" high... Which according to the ballistics tables I got for 150gr FMJ at 2800 FPS zero'd at 450 yards.. is just about correct +/- 1-2".. I am very happy with the Bushnell Banner BDC Scope #71-3946 and though its not perfect (3-9x40).. It works fine for me.. Going back tommorrow to get a better 100yd zero, as I noticed I was shooting low still even at 100 yards when all was said and done.. Albert

superbee 15
Looks great.....You say scopes not perfect! What do you mean?
paprotective 362
superbee.. this model does not have: AO.... Adjustable Objective lens.. (which means its SET from the factory at a given distance to not have parallax adjustment. 3-9x40 is fine for most.. I would like 4-16x44 or 4-16x50 but didn't want 'no-name' brands.. and I like the BDC idea. The 4" relief is good (if you can get 4" on the SHORT Draganov stock).. I got home and moved it up another 3/4" tonight to help. So all scopes are not perfect and may not be for everyone.. Going back to Range 14 tommorrow about 8am.. Feel free to join me.. Bringing both my S308 and S-7.62x39 AK. Albert
ChileRelleno 7,071
That looks like a nice setup you've there. I hope the scope holds up to normal use/abuse for ya. How high are those rings and what make/model? Looks like you've enough clearance over the rear sight leaf, to come down another .25" and get a better cheek weld, similar to using the irons. A AO is nice, if you're willing to pay for it. The better, medium price range scopes are usually parallax free at 50 yards, low end at 100 yards. So for the most part one is generally good to go with parallax when shooting through a scope. As I research scopes, 3-9x40 & 4-12x40/50 scopes seem to be the workhorses of medium-long range shooters, a good range of magnification and good field of view, 100-600+yards without a hitch. Plenty of long range shooters seem to agree that even 10x magnification is plenty for out to 1000 yards. Spent some time looking through 3-9, 3.5-10, 4-12 & 4-16 scopes with both 40/50mm objectives. The higher magnifications, beyond 12-16, e.g. 20, seemed good for spotting your shots/groups, but to me it seemed their FoV would definitely limit acquisition of a target, particularly a moving target. I've still not decided on a scope:unsure: LOL. What type of ammo(s) are you using for your 100yrd zero and subsequent shots? Surplus or commercial, specifics? Shooting the zero off bench and bags? How is 'Your' accuracy, comparatively speaking, are you a mediocre or good shot off bench/bags? If you had a 1 MOA rifle, could you consistently shoot it 1 MOA? Honestly, I'd be hard pressed, my trigger position/control, and breathing need work/practice. That 200 yard group ain't bad, ain't great either, but very acceptable, a lil'blue helmet would've had a hole in it
paprotective 362
ChileR.. Thanks.. Using Tula Ammo 150 gr FMJ 'white box' 2800fps commerical.. I had 3 hard primers in 4 boxes.. had to refeed and refire.. Cheekweld seems fine. I did notice the approx 1/4" gap between the rear site blade and the scope but prefer to have the gap incase the rear leaft jumps up abit under recoil. Had the scope too far back and just moved up last night about 2 rail spaces (3/4 inch). I shoot mainly off a Caldwell front bag (green bag) and hold the rear myself. Get 1-2" groups (10-20 rounds) from my 5.45x39 (6x32 scope) and 3-4" groups with my 7.62x39 (when had 4x32 scope) at 100 yards when doing the same setup. My eyes have contacts for the last 21 years (-3.25 in each eye). Smallest group was 1 1/4" with 4 shots from the 5.45x39 at 100 yards. Not perfect and I don't wait but a few seconds between shots... Going back at 9am today.. Will post updates after. Albert
Rhodes1968 1,638
I have a mount that looked to me like it might be weak in that rear area and so I reinforced it with JB and no problems so far. Thanks for the review been looking at those scopes a good while now for the 308 though I think I will have to go the extra for the TWS dogleg rail so I can take full advantage of the 21" barrel with a peep sight at the rear. Nailbomb 10,221
I had my guntech mount break on me too. The kobra wasn't harmed.
paprotective 362
Day 2.. with Janis and scope. same Tula Ammo 150gr FMJ 2800FPS.. no hard primers today.. Range 14 (NJ) was busy today at 8am... got lane #12.. met a newbie on here also.. First shot group to re-zero scope.. at 100 yards.. then adjusted abit in the pic.. 2nd group at 100 yards About 1 1/4" 3 shot group.. 3rd group at 100 yards.. 1 3/8" high by 1/2" wide then 'CAM' set to 200 yards and shooting 200 yards we get the same as yesterday. abit more centered. then my Christine (S-7.62x39) with 6moa non-magnified Bushnell Red Dot messing around at 100 yards.. 10 rounds in 10 seconds or so... then repeat.. always fun and my MBR.. This thing won't quit and I love her.. I must push the rifle a hair when I go to pull the trigger, as at distance I push LEFT all the time.. Very happy with scope and setup.. and since the RAISE for 450 yards was pretty close to ballistics yesterday I would say the scope will do its job if I do mine.. (more practice) Albert
