  1. The color I told you earlier is what I went with and it was only a shade or two lighter than the stock came from K-var (got the tan stock). It just looks lighter because of the low light and the contrast. I'll get some pics of it in the daylight once it stops raining here and post them.
  2. So it's an AR15? How about a picture made in the daylight? Yeah yeah you knew what I meant. And my weapon is like me " Only looks good with the lights low" LOL JK I'll get better pics when my digital camera gets it's batteries charged.
  3. Haven't had a chance to shoot it with the butt stock installed. I can't wait to take it to my personal range and try it out on accuracy. I have ran a few rounds through the conversion lower reciever and everything functions properly. Thanks all for all the info on this board it's all very helpful. Thanks, Merritt SGT USMC
  4. Maybe if you warmed her up, it would have went easier. I don't know why but I run into that issue alot .... I am painting my butt stock that got in today so everything matches and I will be done later tonight. Hopefully I'll have pics for you guys later.
  5. I had a pistol grip nut hole however I had to enlarge it to make my nut fit. Took some time with the dremel. The front hand guard is cut. Took me about 2 hours with the dremel tool and those pics don't show it very well. The paint I used for the furniture is Rust-oleum Textured (fine textured finish) Color code 7223 Sandstone It's holding up fairly well as I took it out today without the butt stock and fired off a few rounds to make sure the internals all worked well. Butt stock should be here tomorrow or Tues. Thanks for the complements on the color choice. Can't wait for m
  6. You forgot the pin retainer plate. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/49761-1.html
  7. Well like the title says my conversion is at 98% just waiting on my NATO butt stock to get here from k-var. Here are some pictures of my weapon so far. I haven't put the side mounted scope rail and scope back on it yet but I did custom modify the front hand guard as well as doing the whole trigger relocation and adding a pistol grip. I noticed however that my saiga has the dimples for the magazine and the X and Y on the retainer pins. But it came with the saiga hand guards and the non threaded front sight block. Was wondering if this was normal as I saw a post with some of those features
  8. AW how mine looked before I started on my conversion. I just need to find the time to finish her. I can already tell with it shorter that I'm going to like it much more than I did before. Muscle memory is with the M16A4 and not having a pistol grip on any of my weapons now drives me insane. Good luck and once you squeeze off a few rounds you will be hooked for life.
  9. The accuracy issue isn't the length of barrel in this case it's the round that limits it's accuracy. The 7.62x39 drops out of supersonic very fast because of such a large amount of lead and such a small powder charge in relationship. That's why the 308 is more accurate at range than the 39 is. Once a bullet (doesn't matter the cal. ) drops out of supersonic it tumbles and it doesn't matter how well you line up the sights it's going to go ANYWHERE the spirit moves it. Just stick with the shorter barrel because the weapon's accuracy is not due to the barrel it's due to the round in this c
  10. 7.62x39 is awsome to have fun with. Ammo is dirt cheap and like you know from your 12 you can run rounds through it like it belongs in a brothel. If I was you I'd consider doing something else and kill two birds with one stone. I'd go with the .308 and have both your fun and an elk gun all in one. Two well placed .308 rounds and elk is coming down and it gives you more range than the 7.62x39 round does. If it's just fun you want to have on the very cheap then by all means go with the 39. Either way you can't go wrong and believe me 7.62x39 for ground hogs makes a nice mess ..... I'm in
  11. Very simple. I've seen what an AK does to a body (7.62x36) and what a M16A4/M4 does (5.56). Believe me there is no comparison. We had to wear the E-sappies (enhanced sappies) just because of the 7.62 round. Yes the round drops out of supersonic faster leading to lower accuracy but if you're getting past the 200M range you need to be pulling out a good bolt action anyway. Yes I did qualify with my M16 with open sites at 500M but the round at that range still isn't enough to fear. I've seen a man take 3 (5.56) rounds and keep coming. One round from a (7.62) and I promise you they are a
  12. This looks like a GREAT deal. How does it hold up on a 7.62x39 to shock? I may be buying this stock next instead of spending $250 like I normally do. JeffMerr if I was you I'd redirect to this scope if the review from hogdog comes back good.
  13. I would not go overboard with the scope. As long as it does well against the shock of the 7.62x39; magnification to higher powers is not needed. Your best bet is to find a scope with range and lead markers to let you quickly adjust for both range and movement quickly. Anything over 250yards with my saiga and I'm not even going to bother shooting. This coming from a 4X Marine rifle expert that went 10/10 each time at 500yards open sights with my M16A4. Good luck on your search.
  14. I would agree that there is no need for a 47round mag. Besides being heavy good luck finding anything to carry it that can be easily accessed. The scope again I agree on targets you plan on spitting alot of rounds at a scope is completely worthless. But at the 50-100 yards you don't even use the sights in a combat situation. I have engaged targets in Fallujah at those ranges and never used my scope on them. Scopes are for slow fire and if you know how to shoot are just another tool to make you more accurate. As long as it magnifies more than your eye can then it's helping. I've only
  15. I'm planning on getting a mossburg 100atr for a cheap long range gun and modify the heck out of it. I will use it over 200 yards as it's the limit of my saiga 7.62x39. I'd say mod the Remington for long range and use your saiga as a room clearing/spray and pray gun. 308 has the best ballistics and is actually what I'm going with when I get my 100atr so for a saiga it would be the best for range. The longer barrel is going to be better for accuracy but it will pull your round out of super sonic faster so if you are going to put a muzzle brake on the end go with the shorter barrel and if you
  16. I would use that block however did you look at the inside diameter. I don't think my 7.62 round is going to go through the hole. Unless I'm very wrong. And that is one of the brakes I have been looking at. Thanks, Merritt
  17. http://akpartskits.com/cart/index.php?main...;products_id=16 I tried sending an email to the tech support on this site but have not gotten a response. Has anyone tried using this. Also I've been told to just replace my whole sight assembly and just replace it will the belgium with the threads already installed them simply buy the suppressor. http://www.gunaccessories.com/AK47-MAK90/Sights.asp (AK-167B) I've got to say it's compelling as I want to brake to be installed correctly and something about lock screws doesn't work well with me. Also I'd prefer not to cut my weapon.
