  1. Thanks Blackjack. I appreciate it.
  2. Well, I don't want to get anyone riled up, but, I have a bunch of AKs, so I thought I might add a few words. Yes. The AK is very reliable and forgiving. This leads many people to conclude that it doesn't need much care. If you are in "the field" far away from the comfort of the indoors, and your life depends on it being loaded at all times, it will let you abuse it a bit. However for most of us with them in our closets or safes, we tend to care for our guns to make them perform and last. The AK variant is, after all, a third world tool. As such, it is very forgiving, but you canot
  3. By the way, what does the threaded 19" "C" come with on the threads? Is it a thread protector or is it a choke? And what choke? Also, you have done the legal research for your licensure. Obviously a shotgun cannot have a free-standing pistol grip by the trigger, but is one on the forend OK for civilian use? Thanks much.
  4. Gunfighter: Is that the Fiberforce stock on the avatar pic?
  5. I have been shooting since I was 6; I have always been around guns and shooters. The bottom line: If you use slugs of any kind in a full choke gun, you are stressing the muzzle beyond what it was designed to endure. It's not a question of if it will split, but when. The metal will fatigue. Slugs should be used in cylinder bore, but can be used pretty safely in terms of stress with improved cylinders as well.
  6. A few more quick questions: Are any choke or brakes available in the US for the threaded barrel model? Does your Saiga 12 have the bolt hold-open that I read that the newer imports have, and if it does, will moving the trigger group back to the original positioin affect its functioning? Does the Saiga take the stocks with ends for stamped or milled receivers? Thanks.
  7. Thanks Gunfighter. I have four various AKs and as anyone who has these creatures knows, you can't really just use them out of the box unless your general firearm standards are far lower than mine are. I have become quite the Eastern Bloc gunsmith in my own right. Hell, as you say, a B&D drill, and a dremmel pretty much gets you there. So, I understand pretty much all of what you say. If I am reading you correctly, (1) there is an extension of sorts that enables the trigger to function farther back in the receiver, and (2) if it is removed, the "normal" AK trigger group will drop
  8. I have to say that I am refreshingly impressed with the level of education, awareness, reflectiveness and intellectualism in this forum. Other fora (most of whch would have said forums) have been more frustrating to try to exchange ideas in. Both the Sheik and Gryphon make valid points. If a policeperson wants to eat, he does as he is told. . .without question. The most successful amongst us wants the most social control to maintain the status quo. All political ideologies have paradoxes and flaws. Communism is great on paper, but as Gryphon states, by its very nature is an extinc
  9. Funy you should mention the skeleton stock, Gunfighter. I have been looking at the Fiberforce MAK, AK skeleton as a possible retrofit. Is that a stock Saiga receiver? How didi you get the trigger so far forward to accommodate the grip section? Will the Fiberforce work with a little millwork? Thanks. http://www.tapco.com/product_information.a...ept=185&last=13
  10. Guilty. I was too general. Unfortunately, many of the police brass do not share the feelings of cops such as yoursef and others. Good to know you are out there! Do us all a favor. Make as much noise as you can dude.
  11. Simplified . . .understandably considering the forum, but well said, Sheik. The few European nations that tolerate private gun ownership will not tolerate the ownership of mil calibers: you must do .222 not .223 and .380 not 9 mm, etc. The reason for this is that history has a more salient impact on Europeans. They fear--even the "better" gov'ts--that the public might have guns with which to use the ammo inside armories and on the persons of soldiers if the people decide that it's time for a change. I have always treasured the trust and lack of paranoia that has underscored the relati
  12. Guys: I am planning to get a Saiga 12. . .probably the 19" threaded barrel model. I read plenty of posts here about doing what I plan to do: put on a pistol gip and a muzzle brake among other things. My question stems from the fact that the Saigas I have seen and plan to buy have a standard sporting stock with the trigger guard set close to the end of the receiver. How do you put a pistol grip on these rifles? How is there enough space between the rear of the trigger guard and the end of the receiver? Please help. Thanks in advance.
