  2. id agree with you if tearing it down had any effect on functionality.. I messed with quite a few saigas.. and with the rifles.. yeah I test fire them first (ever since people were complaining about 5.45 keyholing) but this is a smooth bore shotgun.. pretty simplistic in design.. tearing it apart and inspecting it is not going to create any huge problem.. in fact if he posted "I only have two gas ports" one might even suggest taking off the gas block and making sure one is not being hidden under it.. for what it is worth.. I agree with you.. in the sense that I would have just shot it to see..
  3. Depends on where you live and how the house and neighborhood are arranged. I don't have any problem picking up a 5.45 or 5.56 weapon for home defense for my situation. (A 7.62x39 might pose a bit of a problem however). Generally speaking, a pistol or pistol caliber carbine is vastly inferior to an AK when trouble comes to call. how is a pistol caliber carbine "vastly inferior" to an AK... "when trouble calls" trouble is generally in the form of one or two intruders.. not a roving band of taliban insurgents with body armor... it would generally equate to engagement in 10-30ft ranges M
  4. if "tactical mall ninja overkill" is your cup of tea.. then by all means go for it.. but go for it correctly.. and at least do things that make the gun run better as well.. at the end of the day it IS your gun.. but you are doing yourself a huge disservice by not converting it.. I get it.. you want collapsible stocks.. grenade launchers.. 7foot long spikes on the front.. cool.. get an ace internal block.. a decent quality buffer tube.. and put the AR stock on that.. then bump the trigger group forward.. so at least the gun WORKS better.. I am looking at that as it sits.. and unless yo
  5. Hopefully the OP will not end up traumatized from this experience and develope a fear of sending things out. After multiple negative experiences sending things out, that is where I am. Yeah it was a nice kick in the sac. Gonna bring it to tac 47 n Texas shooters today n see what's up. Hopefully I want have to pay that much more. No telling though. I will just send the next one to someone on this form. I REALLY hope you don't intend to let "bubba" off the hook completely free..
  6. my point exactly... its a shotgun.. not a 2012 Mercedes..
  7. shooting a rifle round like this in your house? like as in INSIDE? I am far from expert but I have shot 7.62x39 through many things... and I would be very apprehensive to shoot that round inside.. I use a pistol caliber carbine for any interior HD situation.. remember.. you are responsible for EVERY round you fire... sorry that it may not be a direct answer to your question.. just something to think about..
  8. no way.. the heavier the better.. why spend money on things that will make the gun run better.. like a conversion.. when you can bolt useless shit like that to the gun..
  9. for what the rifle is made for I find the aimpoint on a forward mount (ultimak) to be the best you can possibly do..
  10. figures. thanks i will tell the guy. tell him.. right before you ask for a complete refund.. I hope you are not going to have him bubba the gun any more than it already has been..
  11. shoot the gun and then make a decision IMO.. no sense in guessing.. drilling.. etc.. till you know there is a problem to fix..
  12. call* a lawyer.. have the asshole buy the gun back from you.. take that money and go to a reputable builder.. no offense.. but I think that is your BEST route.. as opposed trying to rig something that is already rigged.. also definitely let us know how this goes.. also maybe let us know WHO this is.. so others can avoid said "services" or at least bring lube if they decide to go anyway.. no offense to YOU of course.. since you have NOTHING to do with all the mistakes.. the sad thing is.. he did nothing difficult.. whatever he did YOU could have likely done in an afternoon in th
  13. as far as that thread I linked.. you are not even close.. if 12 MIGHT require a shortened gas system.. I am going to go out on a limb and assume that 8 is definitely going to need a shortened gas system.. I actually JUST was asking about this recently on here and got a lot of really good info.. drilling a giant hole in the barrel is not right.. I assume because the barrel is so short.. there is not enough pressure on the gas system to cycle it correctly.. the reason you push the system back is because there will be more pressure there.. thus enabling the gun to cycle.. I assume the ga
  14. I prefer pistol caliber carbine.. but hey.. that's just me..
  15. did he shorten the gas system? apparently if it is only an 8in gun.. the gas system should be shortened.. again I don't know shit about this.. as I have not done it.. but I would think chopping that thing that short would require some pretty substantial work to get it to cycle correctly.. MORE than just adjust gas ports.. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/38318-sbs-technical-info-thread/
  16. that right there is your problem.. unfortunately after a lot of debate I have decided against a build as short as yours because of exactly what is happening to you.. the gas system has to be just right or the gun is not going to cycle properly.. I hate to make such a costly suggestion.. but I would reach out to a shop that DOES know what they are doing... and see how much they will charge you to take a look at it.. since each gun is different.. what has worked for this person.. or that person.. might not work for you.. how short is the barrel?
  17. for those of you who plan to use the S12 as a HD gun.. ever shoot those 12gauges indoors or at least within a closed in setting.. might want to give it a try just to see what you are putting yourself up against.. in other words.. if after the first shot you are completely useless blind and deaf.. better make that first shot count and hope they didn't bring friends.. not "talking shit" just saying..
  18. had the trirail and gas tube... TRI RAIL for me ended up making the gun awkward.. scaled down to kvar handguard and left ultimak gas tube.. ultimak gas tube... vltor light mount... and aimpoint.. old setup.. with the ful rail system..
  19. of course he is.. lol never had anything but exceptional service from css...
  20. Contact Greg at CSS and see what he says. CSS has ALWAYS been helpful.. I would contact him as well.. this just reinforces my plan to go with the ACE unit..
  21. I care about 2 things.. light weight.. and ability to mount a light (surefire) comfort is a plus but I can adapt.. and it ideally would not be hideous.. what is the lightest handguard/rail system option I can possibly run.. thanks..
