  1. I don't really understand why so many people are into the muzzle brakes. The flash hiders I get, but does the 7.62x39mm round really give enough kick to merit a relatively long and heavy piece of metal hanging off the end of your already very front-heavy rifle to tame such a savage beast? In my opinion, no, no it does not. To each their own but I think a really good flash hider would be a better pick if you must have a muzzle attachment. The Vortex from Smith Enterprises just can't be beat by all accounts I have seen. One way or the other, read up on barrel threading. I understand it can be a
  2. Shout out to all my open source comrades out there! Linux rocks! Fuck Micro$oft! Let FREEdom ring!
  3. Has the new frontsight affected your groups at all?
  4. Have you had a chance to take her out yet? I assume that sighting in will be exactly the same but let us know. I'm still wondering if the shorter sight radius is noticeable. And more pics are always welcome!
  5. Hey ACWeller, thanks alot for being the test subject on this man. Much appreciated.
  6. It is pointless unless the factory front sight is removed when you bolt this one on. It does not raise the front sight at all to my knowledge. I don't know if it will be better for me yet because I don't have one yet. In theory it should make for a slightly more balanced weapon by pushing the front sight block back to the gas block which is closer to your front grip. Also it could reduce snags when walking through brush and the like since it reduces the hook-like profile at the end of the barrel. I don't know if the bolt-on weighs less than the factory fsb or not but I am hoping to find that o
  7. I was thinking about that. I'm mostly interested in reducing the front end weight as much as possible because its so front-heavy as it is. I wonder what the ace bolt-on weighs vs. the cut off factory fsb. Hey ACWeller, I don't know if you have a scale available but if you get a chance to weigh the two out let me know what kind of results you get. I don't know if these things are steel or aluminum or what but I bet a little weight could be saved on rounding it up with some grinding without necessarily sacrificing structural integrity. The aesthetics are not really a concern for me but I see wha
  8. Awesome. I assume you intend to cut off your standard front sight block. Good luck man. I'd like to see some pics when you get it all set up.
  9. I want to move my front sight to the gas block for balance and reduced snags. This bolt-on front sight from Ace looks like a good candidate but I would like to get some feedback from folks who have used it to see how it holds up. Any input in this regard is appreciated.
  10. I'm looking for a gas block front sight combo. I've seen the homebrew versions that people have come up with but I would rather buy one than build one sense it seems like really precise work to get the sights lined up properly. Somebody send me a PM if you have a lead on where to look. Much appreciated.
  11. Yeah, it would almost certainly be more accurate using scopes on the hinged rails versus scopes on the dust cover rails. That is just providing a more stable platform for the optic to be mounted to which results in better zero retention. I guess what I'm asking is, say you are just using iron sights and the gun is stable on a bench or what have you, would the presence of the bolted down hinged receiver rail change the overall rigidity of the gun such that the rifle itself would be made more accurate due to the addition of a "spine" to its structure? If I could afford it I would buy one myself
  12. Hey guys, I was shopping around looking at the hinged receiver rails that hook up to where the rear sight normally would be. Several websites offer variations on these products but I noticed an interesting claim on RedStarArms.com about one of these rails. In the description, they claim that having that rail screwed in firmly to the rear of the rifle adds rigidity and thus stability which results in an improvement in accuracy. I, as an AK enthusiast, am always interested in propositions to make this admittedly somewhat inaccurate rifle (come on guys, seriously, its an AK), more accurate. I kno
  13. Like I was saying before, there's no money to be made by a quick decisive end to these wars.
  14. The war profiteers don't want American soldiers to have weapons with maximum effectiveness. They want sub-standard weapons in the hands of the grunts so that wars can drag on for a decade or more. This way their industry booms while the rest of the economy falls to shit because we spent our national fortune on their bullshit weapon systems. Think about it like this: If there was some kind of awesome weapon that simply killed the enemy with 100% effectiveness, the weapon makers would be fools to sell it to the government because they would only sell one and then their entire business would be o
  15. I've got a Mossberg 500 (JIC) 12g with an 18" barrel. As far as accessories: a heat shield on the barrel (saved my hands more than once but I wish I got the one with ghost ring sights), ProMag pistol grip and telescoping stock, a Hogue rubber sleeve for the pistol grip (really helps), an ATI vertical forend grip, and this cool little flashlight/laser combo I got at Dick's that has 8 bright white LEDs and a poorly aligned laser with a pressure switch. I was hoping the laser would be straighter but who needs it for this gun? I'd just use it to hit an intruder in the pupils anyway. It is a good p
  16. What exactly do you mean when you say "a smaller area of target?" Do you mean field of view? That strikes me as odd because in all of the specifications I've seen on those two scopes (4x and 6x) they have the same field of view listed at 100m. Could you elaborate? Also, this is obviously a highly subjective question, but does the scope feel like it adds a lot of weight to the gun (which is of course already considerably heavy)? Thanks for your help man.
  17. I've been doing a lot of deliberating on what kind of optics system I want to put on my 7.62x39mm Saiga rifle. I have considered the Ultimak/Aimpoint combo that seems really popular but the AK design already has too much weight in the front creating what, in my opinion, is an unbalanced weapon. I have also considered the PK-AS-V Russian red dot which seems like a good option, especially with the backup black dot, but I would like something with magnification for ranges beyond 200-300 yards. I am now considering a POSP 6x24mm Russian scope calibrated for the 7.62x39mm round with a Larue Iron Do
  18. Not much chance of having both systems work at the same time. The new AR safety will work on your gun. Contact Robert Wright at 503-551-7283. Doug I really like what I see here. How many new parts does this safety switch add to the gun? I'm not worried about 922® because these are obviously going to be U.S. parts even if they are categorized under the 922® list which I don't think they are. What I am concerned about is reliability. No insult intended. I'm sure your products are high quality. But, as we all know, the more moving parts in a thing, the more likely it becomes that
  19. Hey bigsal, maybe I'm just showing my ignorance here but what is that switch-like thing just forward of the mag well on that bottom pic? I've caught glimpses of those before on other guns but I never knew what it was.
  20. Hey R&R Targets. I have a 7.62x39mm Saiga rifle. I really like your safety switch but I must know, can it work on my rifle? If not, what is the possibility of getting one that will? Also, I assume the standard safety lever is still there. I don't know because I can't see the other side of that gun. My dream configuration would be the R&R safety switch with the Krebs modified safety lever. Any chance of these two parts working together harmoniously?
  21. A reliable safety is an essential part of any firearm. To use a gun without a safety, to me, would be like using a car without brakes. I'm surprised that so few people have seriously considered significant safety mods for the AK platform. The new safety levers from Krebs look very promising but I would like a thumb safety lever in addition to the trigger finger option. You can never have too many options as far as I'm concerned.
  22. It is not indisputable. During a high adrenaline event like a firefight, I'd rather have the system that relies on gross motor control (big safety lever) than fine motor control (tiny button). The thumb safety system I saw from Krebs on the KTR-08 still has the normal AK safety lever and a thumb safety switch (which is much much faster than removing your hand from the pistol grip) that both work as options. That way if for some reason the easy to reach thumb switch would jam up or freeze, you would still have the regular one as a backup. No one is talking about removing the old s
