  1. Just an opinion but I think at current pricing they are a bargain if can be found. They are an investment if you can find them, espeically the .308 and 12.
  2. You can do it with a small flat file as well. I bought the AK grip nut for $0.49, filed the square a little during the conversion and dropped it in. It appears the Saiga has as much in common in terms of the size of components with AK 74 as it might with the AK 47. I think the gas piston is the same deal. The AK 74 is a bit shorter than the AK 47. The 47 looks like it is !/4 inch longer than the one in my Saiga. Same withv the lower guard retainer, AK 74, not 47. Either way, you will be OK. It is not likely you will create enough slop in terms of hole size to cause the grip to turn.
  3. Heck, I'd be in violation just for handguns.
  4. Bvamp, Thanks. I have been kind of scoping this out. I think I am going to try to use a AK 74 retainer using the cut and bolt method. It won't be cosmetically perfect but I don't have the patience or resources to press off and on the FSB and GB without going to a smith. I am leaning heavily on putting on the TDI Tri-Rail like you have although I did order a Galil guard with another G-2 set from DPH Arms two nights ago. The Tri-Rail gives me options for other attachments, etc. Thanks for keeping on the strait and narrow. I always welcome advice. Wolverine
  5. I don't think so because you have two "evil features" including the magazine feed and folding stock. The minute you put the folder on you need three more US parts. If you keep the grip which is not in the US count as the rifle did not have one to start, a US folder such as the Tapco would give you one. You still need three more for a total of four on the 7.62 Saiga. One option is to use a US hammer, gas piston, and front lower handguard. The transfer bar trigger and sear system precludes a swap for US parts without the conversion. Frankly, I think it is cheaper to do the con
  6. Good point. As reliable as the word of some employers. All bullshitski!!
  7. That's what does not figure. EAA had posted on their sight the Saiga was coming out with a skeleton stock. I assumed as an option. EAA knew they were not going to be importing anymore so why the ad on the new stock? What do they know that we don't? Something just doesn't add up.
  8. Geez,I don't know. Is that all bad? Oh, I forgot they get at least half of everything.....including the Saiga's.
  9. pistonring8, As a matter of fact I have already checked out your profile. The only thing you have to worry about is the Manson eyes!!! Just kidding. Yeh, the tatoos and long hair create an image of sorts. But heck, in this day and age some of the sexiest women alive are sporting ink......in interesting places too. It's an image you enjoy or you'd change it but it can draw special attention on occasions such as having the man in your face about potential weapons violations. It makes some people nervous to know that not everyone subscribes to their values or conventions.
  10. pistonring8 TDI makes it. I got it at Red Star for $30. You can get it for $20 at the first site I list: http://www.botac.com/tdiargapigr.html Here are a couple ofother sites that offer it and some other slick stuff: http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...82c108d8f76745e http://www.blackheart.org/index.asp? http://www.redstararms.com/ Enjoy the toys. 11. High quality textured paint that went on over the dimpling which had dulled the finish but improved the grip. The grip is still good but looks a little better with the paint. The whole deal was an experiment for a different look than just carving vent slots.
  12. Somehow the masses often miss the towncrier. It's not until reality bites (no .308's available and others dwindling) that we begin to wake up to "yes, it is true).
  13. Great, cause I am thinking of going to Dunham's tonight and buy a .223 before they are non-existent. I'd buy a .308 but this store doesn't carry them as a rule. If I was loaded with $ I'd buy out the inventory and sit on them. I'd like to create a host of variations including a Bull Pup.......if they're legal in MI. I'll find that out pretty quick.
  14. Anyone know about the legal status of the Bull Pup? I note K-Var offers a conversion kit and one of the Posters recently showed his custom made Bull Pup. I understand the BP is 10" shorter than conventional Saiga'a or AK's. I thought the rifle has to be at least 26" overall it is reclassed as a pistol and becomes subject to regulation as such. For instance, in MI you have to have a purchase permit to aquire one and a "safety inspection" by the local PD after purchase so that it is registered with the State. What is the deal with the Bull Pup? Anyone have experience with one and what d
  15. I think you have had any responses because no one is too sure. We have all sort of just figured out that Importer EAA is not going to be carrying them anymore. Prices have been good and now that word is out rifles in various calibers are dwindling. Are you after the 7.62 caliber or something else? I live in MI and bought mine at Sporting Goods Store Dunhams. They don't carry a full line. Many of the guys have been buying from CDNN Sports and having the rifle shipped to a FFL holder in their area for $20. You might try this although they are selling like hotcakes and some models are g
  16. pistonring8, I'll let you know if I hear from the Feds. I did buy 3 semi-autos in less than 30 days in Nov. 2004. A WASR-10. The next day a Saiga 7.62. 20 days later another Saiga 7.62. Maybe they can help me get a deep discount on conversion parts or offer some advice on good places to find high quality stuff. Most important I'll have something interesting to post on this site. Wolverine
  17. Here is one of my 7.62 forearm as described above.
  18. Thought I would post what my converted 7.62 looks like now. It's run of the mill other than I used a camo design and dimpled grip on the forearm. I am not happy with the Tapco Stock. I'm a lefty and the hinge block is right at my nose. Either my cheek bone or nose will get busted during rapid fire recoil. So I am going to put on an ACE stock and an Ultimak gas tube with a Tri-rail or Galil lower grip. So its' cosmetics will change pretty soon. I'm also going to install a bullet guide and get out of the Saiga magazine chase business. I'll post again after the new furniture is attached.
  19. I keep it around for when BATF comes a calling!!
  20. Naw, I wouldn't sell mine. I am going shoot the damn things until they need parts and can't be found or cost a fortune. Then I look for the next sleeper to play with.
  21. Well, actually I got the bright idea to load the word "lube" into Goggle to see what would spring up. No shit, a hit leading to this was site listed in the first couple. As for spam, no problem. I use Norton Security, Ad-Aware, and Spy Sweeper regularly. I don't need all that crap denegrating performance, loading my mailbox, or some BS virus locking up my notebook. I'll attach another for those who prefer alternative lubes. Wolverine PS.......I think they are interchangeable with the other stuff, you know, oh "just let it slide".
  22. I just had a nightmare. What if Century Arms buys up the Saiga line?
  23. Well for all those inclined there is a lube solution. Check this shit out!!
  24. glennb, What kind of ammo were you shooting through the Saiga? If you did the conversion is it possible the barrel may have gotten twisted when you were working on the receiver? Or is the FSB canted? Just some thoughts that ranthrough my head. Wolverine
  25. Did I just hear someone say "yes"?
