  1. I have wondered the same thing. If that buttstock will slide on or fit with trimming as shown in the conversion pictures the Saiga receiver would look remarkably like the russian Vepr. It would be a cool variation. Let's see if anybosy has tried this one out yet.
  2. Bvamp: Thanks for the info and picture. I'm glad I waited to hear from you before ordering the part. Cool looking weapons. I bought the same handgrip you have on your SAR1. I have a new Romanian WASR-10 I have done some work on but will likely not invest much more than what I have in it now: RSA retainer plate, magazine release extension, and mojo peep site. I was not impressed with the fit and finish. I had to work on the furniture, magazine well and FCG. Although the rifle functions OK it is not is well made and does not operate as smooth as the Saiga. So now I am looking a
  3. Damn. Sorry I did it again. Here is the link: http://www.lavasoft.de/ Wolverine
  4. Anyone intersted in quality free spyware protection can follow this link to a Swedish sight called Lavasoft. Then follow the the Download.com link in the right hand corner to download Ad-Aware. It is free, efficient, and simple to use. You also can get free updates. Spyware is notorius for bogging down performance. I use the Ad-Aware Webroot Spysweeper which is available at Best Buy or on line thru Webroot. This one is not free but is much cheaper at Best Buy then off the Web. Good luck and I hope it helps. 5. Sorry lollygagger. I am guessing youn have dial up service and or a PC with RAm of 256 or less. I'm running on high speed cable so it downloads quick. Also I have 512 RAM. I won't repeat that one. I was trying to share something I thought was funny. A series of cranse lifting one another out of the drink only to fall in themselves. I'll tryh to stick to the subject if the future. Wolverine
  6. glennb: I am pretty new to all this to. I bought a WASR-10 and two Saiga's in 7.62. One of the first things I did was swap out the shepard's hook or crook for a Red Star Arms Retainer Plate costing $12. They are very easy to install and take out, unlike the shephard's hook. I ordered parts today to begin the conversion. I am going to move the FCG forward and attach a folding stock. I already have the new RSA Retainer on hand for the conversion. I thought I would offer it up as an option for you to consider. Other sites offer the same part for a buck less but Red Star Arms has
  7. BVamp, It looks slick. Did the Ultimak slide right in or did you have to make modifications such as moving the gas chamber? I am thinking of venting the forearm like yours or some of the others with four holes and perhaps installing a quick remove or folding grip on a rail on the underside of the forearm. Have you seen any like this on a Saiga and do you know where I can find a rail that will fasten on the forearm without compromising it? I did see on some of the 308 threads that one gent was having problems with the (wood & synthethic) forearm breaking under normal use. Altho
  8. Don't let these guys touch your guns. They have to be the Kings of FUBAR. Some people just don't understand the fundementals of physics. Enjoy. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/truckwater.html Wolverine
  9. Thanks for the steer k_dawg and Doerdie. I don't know of any problems with the Wolf poly coat stuff so I am going to go with that. I'll have to go thru the first time order ID process but it will make future orders a snap. Thanks again. Wolverine
  10. MidSSouth: Sorry I forgot to attach the web site. Here it is: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/shotguns.html Wolverine
  11. Thanks for the chart Smiley Guy. It is amazing the stuff you can learn on this forum. I have ben shooting Wolf fmj purchaed at Dunhams for $2.19 per 20 rds. Does anyone know where I can buy Wolf in bulk (1000 or 1240) rds? Does it all have the laquer coating that has the rep for gumming up the works after several hundred rounds? I did look at Ammo Man's?? site but it appears the Wolf ammo is laquered. Some of the Wolf appears like it is coated in a green substance and some in something more clear. Anything you guys have to offer would be great. Thanks. Wolverine
  12. Midsouth: I thought about that as I read through the threads. But, I am interested in keeping the ten for plinking on my brothers land. I am leaning on trying to block the magazine so it can be quickly returned to a ten shot. Exactly what to use or how it is done is what I need to learn more about. Maybe I can avoid cutting anything. Anyway if you want a ten that can be converted to fifteen take a look at this site. The tens are $10 which is about $6 cheaper than EAA sells them for. I may buy a couple of extras myself. Everybody likes the thirty rounders but they add weight and are
  13. Thanks guys. I will check it out. I definitely want to scope one of the two Saiga's. The jury is out on the WASR-10. I am more focused on WASR's performance since polishing the shit out of the FCG. I couldn't find any moly today but did pick up a can of Dupont fluoropolymer formula lube. It is rated for -50F to 450F. God knows what will happen if I spray some on that WASR's FCG. Wolverine
  14. Is there a quality high mount pictatinny rail unit with quick connect/disconnect features? If so where can I get one and how much does it cost? I plan on trying to use an older Bushnell 3x9x32 I have on an old Glenfield 22 rimfire I've had since I was a kid. Thanks. Wolverine
  15. Lollygagger: Those are some nice looking magazines. I am assuming you installed a guide in your rifle and worked on the standard magazines. I have bought two of the Saiga's in 7.62 in recent weeks. Both came with one 10 round plastic magazine. My question/issue is a little different. I live in MI and am limited to five rounds when hunting. It seems I have two options. Block the magazine to hold 5 rounds or trim it and reinstall the floorplate. Will I need to trim or cut followers or springs to do either or both or these methods? Thanks for the advice. Wolverine
  16. Don't know anymore than what is posted on EAA. However, EAA has detailed diagrams of every part with a corresponding table reflecting prices. If all holds true the skeleton stock will be available cas a part .....at a ridulous price. For instance the furniture (buttstock and foregrip) sells for about $100. You can get the same two parts new from Krebs for $35. I surmise Krebs strips them off to customize the Saiga's. http://www.krebscustom.com/CustomParts.html
  17. Does anyone have experience with the peep on Red Star's site for $40?. Apparently it replaces the factory site in total and is adjustable for windage and elevation. What do guys think about this one versus Krebs that was mentioned above?
  18. What about the scope mount that EAA offers made for the Saiga? Is it low or high profile? Is it solida and any good?
  19. From what I have read the doubles are for milled receivers but can be used in stamped by "notching" the receiver to permit clearance. Apparently the doubles do provide a more even and smooth triger pull. I have yet to figure out how one distinguishes which FCG's are single or two stage other than Red Stars advertised elaborate and expensive FCG. That said I just ordered two Tapco single hook G2 sets at $33 bucks each from DPH arms. It's the best price I have seen.
  20. BVamp, I think you are right on target about EAA strategy being to keep it simple, avoid legal entanglements, and tons of customer inquiries into conversion information. As for the Saiga 12, that is some real firepower. A semi auto 12 capable of pumping out 20 in a row without a hiccup. The question is how many US guys actually have the high cap magazines? EAA indicates it is illegal to import magazines greater than a five rounder. EAA quote from the site I posted above: "Saiga Shotgun Magazines: The maximum allowed by law, for importation is 5 rounds." I may not have
  21. I have been emailing EAA about PGs for their Saiga shotguns and rifles based on the grip that we saw on Ebay in one of the threads. EAA states that putting a pistol grip on a shotgun with a detachable magazine is illegal. I indicated I wanted one for my new 7.62 rifle and intended to comply with the law 922.r. They hedged my question and seemed very disinterested in any U.S. market for PG that would fit the Saiga's. On another note I visited their web site and thought i would share the update they posted including one on a new line of skeleton Saiga's. http://www.eaacorp.com/news
  22. Smiley_Guy: I wonder if the BATF opinion you got is based upon how the rifle is classified. It is my understanding the Saiga is categorized as a sporting arm rather than an assault weapon based upon the extended receiver, modified FCG, and welded piece on the end of the barrel. This combined with the fact there is no quick after market swap out parts like the AK's and AR's may place this rifle on other than a "hot" list. Saig'a are a variant of the AK but they are a different animal than AK's, VEPR's, and AR models. That said, it can also be argued the Saiga is an imported semi-auto
  23. jtoddellis: Greetings. I have not tried standard AK mags in my new Saiga. I did buy four Belguim synthetic mags waffle Ag mags at at K-var for $10 each. They were tighter than heck in my new WASR-10. I broke out the Dremel and did the "fix" after Century's crap job. They still fit pretty tight and will not drop out when released. They are easiliy removed by hand however. The long and short of it is I will be buying metal mags in the future. When you compare the two the additional width of the synthetic is notable. I may try to alter one of the Belguim's to fit in the Saiga to s
