  1. Dang what happened there REDDOG? I'm on the edge of my seat here. Show us your corral pics!
  2. Thanks Indy. Maybe I will scrape up some cash and take you up on that thread protector. Could I send you a money order? You have the whole set of chokes. What kind of difference have you noticed in shot patterns? Would it be worth my getting some more?
  3. I knew you had a cool mustang somewhere in your past! Someting tells me there aint a whole lot of tread on that rear tire!!
  4. Thanks GOB no one has ever told me that. the guy who sold me my gun sold me a bunch of slugs with it and that's all I shot through it for a while. My choke does not have any numbers on it or any flat sides
  5. You must be the compresssion ring! Big block FORD Power!! Hell YEAH!! OOHHH if I had that 429 I could find a way to make it fit...dream dream drool... Nitro!!
  6. Thanks Aethelbert, Maybe someone will chime in that can help me figure out what kind of choke I have. Then I can figure out which ones I still need if any. If mine is a full choke like it appears to be then why would I even want another? From what little I think I know about chokes, a full choke compresses the shot pattern as much as possible. From shooting at paper targets I can tell the pattern is still over a foot wide at around 50 feet. Why would I want to spread it any thinner than that unless I was trying to hit a bird in flight from the hip? Like I said I have never used chokes on my
  7. Mine does the exact same thing. I figured it must be because I don't have a rear sight. I cured that with a scope but I'm hoping the elevated front sight I ordered will get me back on with iron sights. I've got a custom idea in mind for adjustable rear sight to go with it. Come on big brown truck, come on!
  8. That's what I would like to know. EAA sure was not any help. Does the #3 full look just like mine without the porting? Can't you tell if it's full by the inside measurement at the end? I've shot #2,3,& 4 shot thru it as well as slugs. I guess I should remove it and compare the shot pattern with and without. Any Ideas on what shot and at what distance? I have some #2 and #3. Shouldn't make any difference with the slugs should it? IndyArms what is reasonable?
  9. I saw Scott from DPH at a gunshow last weekend and he had a pile of them. But there's nothing to going with a double hook instead. Just cut a second notch. That's what I did on my conversion. Some believe the double hooks are smoother.
  10. That just one thing is actually a whole series of things you need to do. Go to this link and after you read and understand everything on this website you will be ready grasshopper. If you have any questions after I will gladly help. Remember these instructions are for a Saiga rifle. Shotguns are easier but almost the same. http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/index.htm
  11. I know from past experience most guys who love guns also love fast cars. What have you had or still have? Here's one of my sweeties I've had since 1984. A 76' CobraII V6 4speed all orig. Her twin sister has the V8 302 4 speed with lots of extras. Wish I could find time away from this awesome gun hobby to finish restoring them. "Cobra 76 two" = my hot rod + my favorite rifle cartridge
  12. SWEET! PM me with the details! I wish you great health... Really! I know exactly how you feel. Every time I get ready to go back to work on my project car something comes up. It's either not enough time or not enough money but this thread is about gunsmithing, something else I wish I had time to pusue. That would be cool to work on guns and get paid for it! You know I should start a hotrod thread. Alot of gun nuts are also car nuts.
  13. While on this choke subject , does anyone have one on their 410 like this one? Does anyone know what it's for. I have never used chokes on any of my other shotguns so forgive my ignorance. If I measured right the inside diameter at the end is.369" or .041" smaller than .410. What kind of shot is this meant for? It's the only one that came with my gun and has no markings. I have been using it for slugs and shot. Also what are the holes for? Thanks
  14. Hey REDDOG I know a guy in N.C. that would love to take the burden off your hands with that old war horse you got back there! I'll come pick it up for him if you like!
  15. Well it happened again. Nice goin' dirtbag. Some punkass group of high school kids in Louisburg N.C. thought it would be fun to crash their rival schools sports victory party and take along a gun they did not have the brains to own. A fight started when someone didn't like them dancing with their women so they left. But not before they took turns shooting up the place. They were firing at random and the star basketball/football player for the winning team peeked up over the car he was hiding behind and caught a 7.62 round in the face. Killed instantly. Here we go again! The news and the papers
  16. His price is about the same as Oleg's if you get 2 for the 410. Didn't I see somewhere that he will not accept paypal or credit cards though?
  17. Well it's already been said but hell yeah 7.62x39 is plenty for taking a whitetail. Especially here in the east where you rarely need or have the oportunity to shoot at anything over 50 yds much less 250 or more. That's the only time you would need a bigger round. There was a guy on ak.net that did a test and posted his results on bullet expansion a while back. He shot several different leading brands thru an AK into a plastic barrel of water. He tested Wolf, Barnaul, Winchester, Remington, and others, hollow and soft point, and determined that the Barnaul soft points had the best expansion as
  18. Smokie your's is exactly like mine. The hammer assy is the same as any ol AK. No problem to take out and put back. The axis pin retainer spring however is rolled around the factory trigger axis pin if I remember right so to take it out you would have to drill and remove that pin or use a screwdriver and a hook tool to relieve tension to get the two forward pins out. That disconnector assy is basically just a regular AK set with the trigger cut off. Does that "tapered choke" on yours have small holes all around the side? If so I have the same one and I too would like to know what it's best u
  19. Old school arkansas stone & a few drops of oil. Coarse on one side, smooth on the other. I've been using the same stone on all my knives for the last 30+ years since my grandfather gave it to me and showed me how to do it. After hundreds of uses it still shows no ware. I think he told me it belonged to his father. If you go slow and repeat each stroke at the same angle it's not hard to eyeball. Lay the blade flat on it's side and rock upward till the edge touches and pushes a bead of oil the length of the blade. That's the right angle. My stepfather, who's a chef, showed me a trick he us
  20. Thank you very much. Now I can feel a little safer if I order those evil mags on my credit card.
  21. Kickass!! Thank you that is exactly what I need to know. Please let me know when your front sight comes in. I ordered mine with a 10 rd mag so there's no telling how long it will take to get it.
  22. I was just thinking that all that extra weight in there would equal too much backpressure. I don't know anything about reloading though other than if you do it right you can shoot alot cheaper. Have you tried the Barnaul 3"steel case loads in your gun? I'm interested to see how they functioned if so. I just bought 100 rounds of it with 97gr slugs for 30 bucks. That's way cheaper than anything else out there in 3", slugs or shot.
  23. Does ANYONE out there know and can post a link to the actual law pertaining to the maximum # of shells you can legally have in a shotgun TODAY with a detachable mag? I will wade through the legal terminology and figure it out for myself. Sounds to me like this subject needs to be cleared up with all the people trying to find or manufacture a way to feed these babies all they want. What you don't know CAN hurt you.
