  1. I've actually started the thread over here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=31171 So, please respond over there if you would. But to sum up, I sent my Saiga 12 to my gunsmith and he mentioned that the BHO is "uncomfortable" when you move the trigger control group forward. He didn't advise for or against, but I'm wondering how others deal with the BHO when you move the TCG forward. How do you? Separately, he's mentioned that the rear sight is canted, but also that it is "dovetailed" in there and hence unrepairable. That's not really a conversion issue, but I'm also no
  2. WTB Tromix Shark Brake. If you've got one to sell, PM me. Thanks!
  3. If you are interested in splitting that sale and selling the Krebs sight, PM me.
  4. A noob question: is it safe to shoot buckshot or birdshot on the 12 with a shark brake on? Or with the shot catch on the brake ports?
  5. I read somewhere here in the forums that the Saiga 12 won't cycle reduced recoil rounds. Anyone have direct experience?
  6. I really love it out here, but your more apt to feel comfortable if you don't "fit the mold" in other places. Oregon, and Portland in particular, is populated by quirky, independent, and just flat out strange people. It's very liberal, probably more so than any other American city, but again, in a very independent way. I love it here and probably wouldn't be as happy most other places in the US.
  7. I spotted these guys on the web, though I've never heard of them: http://www.frangiblebullets.com/specs/index.html I'm investigating whether or not frangible ammo is a good option for self-defense. Anyone care to weigh in? I've seen the results from box o' truth and their test had frangible, door breaching ammo going through multiple layers of drywall. Any opinions of what works, what doesn't, and where to buy?
  8. My brand new, plain-Jane Saiga pre-conversion sitting on a very nice Pakistani rug in the Isfahan style.
  9. So, low recoil rounds and light loads and Winchester Target loads are all ok?
  10. Hi, I wonder if there is any ammo known to NOT work with the Saiga 12. I've heard something about Winchester Universal from Wally World, but am othertherwise lacking information. If we could get a list together and make it sticky, that would be great. Anyone have any specific ammo and/or general guidelines?
  11. On that last point, I've been scouring the Ammo forum for where to get deals on ammo. I'll try many kinds to run through the Saiga, and I'm hesitating to buy anything in bulk before I've tried a box of this or that to see what works. But as a place to start, if anyone can recommend a 00 buck that is cheap, plentiful, and reliable, I'll go buy a box of that first. Any suggestions?
  12. There's a lot of good stuff in there, and I do take the point of needing/wanting to take it out to the range. I live in a metro area, and a first year membership in the local range will set me back $350 or so. This is a bit steep, but I'll get around to it soon. Fortunately renewals will be a fraction of that. But this also raises the point: in its sporting configuration, what exactly can I use my 19" Saiga for? Trap? Water fowl? Turkey? Small game? I'd really like to know the answer to this as I can take courses in these things through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. I'll take
  13. I confess, the zombie apocalypse has been much on my mind. Why a flashlight didn't occur to me before befuddles me. I can only hope that my Saiga 12 will be an Agent of Great Destruction in my hands against the hordes of the animated dead. On the subject of flashlights, what do I need to look for, and where/how to mount it? This one will probably be down the road for me a bit, but I'd like to take a few notes. Thanks in advance.
  14. What's the deal with the shark brake? Recoil reduction? Greater accuracy?
  15. Yes, you've identified a couple of things that I'd like there too. I count a sling as essential. If I'm having to hike it somewhere, I don't want carry the gun in my hand the whole way. Very practical. And yes, I'm eying the Chaos tri- and quad with envy, mostly because it looks ferocious, and that counts for something when you're offering someone some extra incentive to leave you be. I hadn't given much thought to the tac light, but that's because I hadn't thought much about firing on an intruder in the dark, which is worth considering. Let me ask this, since I'm not much in the know:
  16. My suggestion. Go shooting and learn about your firearm before trying to figure out what to change. It's good advice, but I'm still willing to hear suggestions. I'm already committed to having the trigger group moved forward and a pistol grip and folding buttstock installed.
  17. I just ordered a 10rd from the Saiga-12 store, and they referred to it as Gen 2. What exactly does this mean? Did they modify them in some way?
  18. Ok, I know this is strictly a matter of preference, but I'd like to hear from Saiga 12 owners what they feel the utmost essential, must-have mods are. For instance, right now I'd say my must-have mod is a pistol grip and a folding stock. The reason for me is that my Saiga is my home defense, WTSHTF weapon. I need to make tight turns in the hallways, so the folder is essential. The grip is to get a good firm grip on the gun to improve balance and control. I think many owners probably consider the grip a high priority. But what else? Brakes? LRBHO? Noise reduction? Recoil reduction? Throw th
  19. Thanks for the responses, but I'm not sure I've asked the question properly. Let me try again: I want to put an AK-style buttstock and pistol grip on the Saiga 12. I still want to move the trigger group forward. Can I just get an AK stock and pop it in? If not, what's needed? An external receiver block?
  20. Indeed it does. But what I'm asking is whether or not it will take a standard AK stock once you have that internal receiver block on there. Will it? No, it will not. If you remove the receiver block, you'll only have one hole left in the rear block to affix a standard AK stock. This can work, but is not advisable. Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. I think what I'm finding here is that accessorizing the Saiga 12 is a boutique operation. For mounting a folding stock on an internal block with the trigger moved forward, you pretty much have your choice of ACE or Tr

  22. I'm considering modifying my Saiga 12 to put a folding stock on it. I'll use an ACE internal receiver block, but other than using an ACE modular stock, what are my options?
