Once I started shooting slugs I just couldn't go back to anything else. However, the slugs leave a lead residue in the barrel. It's not that big of a deal except I really like to see a diamond-mirror sheene when I look down the barrel. The way I've been getting the lead out is to squirt a bunch of PB Blaster in there and then put my brush on a drill and just drill the shit out of it until it's clean. Not an AK type rear leaf. I'm talking about the stock Saiga 12 rear notch sight that's slid in sideways in a dovetail slot. I've wacked it with a steel punch after oiling and tried heating up as well. I've heard people say that you have to hit that bitch harder than you'd ever think you should hit a gun. I'd think there is some tool (with a threaded crank) that you can use to drift that thing out.

If you're talking specifically about the Saiga "S-12," I think it's perfect. Personally, I think in a real SHTF scenario, the threats we'll face will be at very close range (close meaning 0 - 50 feet). It's just my opinion, I could be wrong. An S-12 with slugs or buckshot would be very effective.
