  1. Haha, no. I definitely don't need the guide, but I surely want it. Part of it is love the way JamShot's gun looks: it's down-right intimidating. But mainly, I just like to work on guns as much as I enjoy shooting them, so it's just a fun hobby and a useful way to learn new skills. If it helps shave a few seconds off my time, then all the better, but mainly I just like to tool around making my weapons look like I know how to use them. And who knows, somebody may benefit from it.
  2. --> QUOTE(G O B @ Dec 9 2006, 05:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How about a mag guide? a 1/2 moon on each side of the magwell- shaped like a spoon cut in half - convex side to the middle and spring loaded. Just to center the mag and guide the front up into the reciever for quick 'rock and lock'. I gotta get these 10rnders in my hand, but I think there's great hope on the horizon.
  3. The best lessons are the hard lessons, so I doubt you'll soon forget to check your gas ports before going Magnum again. I've not forgotten since the first time I did the same.
  4. You da man. Thanks for the offer! But I'll probably try my hand at finishing them better myself once I find time. To go along with your ancient chinese secret: receive a fish, eat for a night; figure out how to fish; eat forever! I foresee myself doing some more welding work in the future, so I want to be sure I have it down to a fine art. The S20 was my learning project--the upcoming S12 conversion will be my masterpiece! So I must learn to fish better before I tackle it. However, if I find myself incapable of learning, I may take you up on that offer and I'd make sure to make
  5. Ok, well that one looks good! Maybe I judged it too hastily, but with the longer barrel and AK-74 brake they go together well.
  6. There's a difference between creating magazines with capacity 10+ and producing them for commercial sale (I think). Otherwise my 20ga creations might be trouble. It's like I can produce my own alcohol...but I can't produce above a certain amount or produce it for resale. Check the energy of the shorties. I'm not sure that they have enough power to cycle the S12.
  7. Awesome, thanks! Though I must say, I'm not too huge a fan. Good to know though, I appreciate the link.
  8. Any chance you might have a picture of this? I'm about to take the plunge into purchasing all my conversion equipment and I really want a skeletonized stock. This might be right along the lines of what I'm looking for! Thanks!!!
  9. From my understanding, Kevin checked with the ATF to be sure that 10rnd stick magazines would not make the S12 a DD. I do not know if he checked on mags that held more than 10, but 10 is the number that got OKed. Not 11, but 10: anything else could mean DD. Even if it wasn't checked on, which I seem to remember reading that it was, I believe there's precedent in favor of allowing 10rnd detachable mags. The USAS I believe had sticks which were 10, but it was the drum that made it get classified as a DD. It might have stayed cool if it had stuck with 10rnders, but going over 10 is walkin
  10. My baby gets hungry and she's gotta be fed. I still don't understand how you get yours finished so perfectly. I spent HOURS sanding the crap out of mine and smoothing it out, and it's still obvious where the bondo is.

I doubt you'll be breaking your toy...your shoulder might be of concern though. Throw in a buffer so you don't beat the hell out of the receiver, and get a recoil pad for your own sake. The gas-system will act as a bottle-neck so that it'd be tough to over-load it, and the barrel is so over-engineered that it shouldn't be a problem. As long as the bolt carrier and the receiver don't beat each other up, which a buffer should help, I can't foresee you have any problem. But wait for a few more folks to second my opinion, I'd hate to steer you wrong.
  12. I guess that means we ought keep our Frankenmags for the S12 low-key? I don't want to get the S12 into any trouble.
  13. I have Cobra's follower ramps on all of my 3" magazines and every one feeds no problem. You don't even have to reverse the direction of the follower. For frankenmags you can't reverse the direction, but it still works perfectly.
  14. Yep, thanks Cobra! I knew you'd have it handy... Think that could help with the first round feeding problem? Or am I on crack again?
  15. Notice how narrowly the SCOTUS ruled on the issue though. They merely held that a firearm is not itself a dangerous device and that the intent behind the statute did not suggest it could be strict liability because it wasn't a public welfare offense. But the case's history is dubious at best. Many jurisdictions go to great lengths to distinguish Staples so that they can use a stricter judgment. See US v. Imes, 80 F.3d 1309, where the possession of a sawed-off was "quasi-suspect" so that the knowledge of possession was enough to satisfy the mens rea requirement. Without setting off a
  16. Haha, I like this guy. He figures out his own solutions without needing much help. You might can grind the bolt carrier down to make it swallow that first round more easily. I think it might be linked in the tech section. If not, I believe the original tutorial was by StimpsonJ and maybe repeated by Wakal? It's nothing a little dremmeling can't fix. Keep the faith, and keep up the tinkering!
  17. Well dang. I thought the "quad-stack" was just a crazy hypothetical. I didn't know it was already in use! Thanks for the info!
  18. From the looks of the magazine and the well, it really is a different design. The AK is rock-and-lock, the M16 is a tab. I imagine it'd be possible to modify normal magazines to be the same way, but it'd be a headache. It's easier to remove material than to build it up, so it's probably better to start from scratch and design for the AGP magazines specifically, instead of trying to adapt a system that wasn't meant to work with them.
  19. I've also not seen any available besides BR3s...I guess you might find a wood stock off of a 308 if someone converted their wood one, but I doubt many people would get a wood furniture 308 without the intent to keep it wooden. You can craft it yourself, or maybe frankenstock one from normal AK wood furniture. Beyond that, BR3 is definitely the way to go.
  20. This will be an awesome learning experiment. I wish it could be done on a larger scale. In Switzerland(or is it Sweden? I can never keep them trait) about 90% of the male citizens are in the militia and thus are armed all the time. Needless to say, there's not much crime. In the US the chances that someone is armed is slim to none, especially if in public. Let's see, a law-abiding citizen can't be armed at schools, bars, and many urban areas (DC, NYC, CA). Guess where most violent crimes occur...schools, bars, and the urban areas where citizens can not be armed.
  21. Good point, I never really thought about the fact that I get an 8rnd magazine too. That's really not a bad deal. I'm tempted to get one!
  22. I'd not stake my freedom on that..."knowingly" can be actual knowledge or constructive knowledge, ie: "should have known." The constructive standard might give a little wiggle-room because it's an omission to act instead of a positive action (omit to register vs. buying an illegal firearm), but you'd have to prove that you had no reason to know that it was illegal. Chances are, if you have access to the internet or newspapers or TV, after a few months of the new DD-delaration you will be deemed to have constructive knowledge and the new law will impose a positive duty to act, the o

  24. Haha, I agree. $200 is a lot. That's 1/2 the price of the gun! For a simple accessory, I agree that $200 ain't worth it. Otherwise I'd have one already. Definitely so. I'm really surprised it's not already been done. Between FMBG, AGP, Halo, Tony, Cobra, Dinzag, Wakal, Jeric, and others I've not specifically mentioned, I thought it would be out by now. Though, I imagine, designers were waiting for the new magazines. Now that they're here, I bet by summer we'll have mag-wells available at a fraction of the cost of the Russian ones. From my understanding, the only problem
