  1. My SGM mags all had issues. Mag body too narrow at the top, did the old cork and boiling water trick to widen the mag body near the top and the shells slid fine after. The follower dragged at the back of the mag body near the top, working the follower by hand a few hundred times fixed that along with some graphite lube. Biggest problem is that due to having thick plastic feed lips instead of thinner metal like the factory mags the shells do not sit as high when the mag is inserted (area when rim sits). With bolt locked back put in a loaded mag, both factory and SGM and look at the height of th
  2. My VEPR 12 is on the way from MAA and I have a question for those who have them: Does it look like a Romanian wire side folder will fit on these or has anyone tried to install one? I have the folder and need it to register the shotgun as a pistol (MI law allows rifles and shotguns under 30" -we measure folded- to be registered as pistols, but the law changes 1-1-13 so I need to do it before then for it to be grandfathered and carried under my CPL). I know our laws here still suck but are slowly getting better. I'll change it out later when more options are available. Would like to see a pic i
  3. Personally, for criminal/home invasion purposes, I'd keep a five round mag of 00 buck (I know this mag is reliable and it is easier to move around with due to size) and a .45 close by. Always good to have a revolver (reliable) or at least a back up weapon (in case of a shotgun jam). As far as the white light someone mentioned, I'd skip that as it gives them a target to shoot for. You know your home better in the dark than any outsider, use that to your advantage and don't give away your position (at least not until you fire). And always keep a good watch dog, it may not detour criminals inten
  4. Small update: I measured the DoD rounds and they averaged 2.42". They loaded in the drum and hand cycled fine but I did not get to the range to see how they function while firing yet. I'll update again once fired.
  5. Ended up ordering a few boxes for the hell of it. I'll give a full report when they arrive and try to post some video of the action. Box of truth has some good info on these but it's not from an S12 perspective. If my drum is in hand by then I'll try them in that also.
  6. Tried searching but could not find what I was looking for. Has anyone fired the surplus DoD door breaching rounds from their S12? I am wondering if they cycle, do they foul the gas system being made of powdered metal, and do they fit in the MD20 drum? Greatful for any info on these questions. Here's what I'm talking about: Description: Cartridge, 12 Gauge Door Breaching Type: Single Projectile Breaching Cartridge Material: Plastic Projectile Material: Powdered Metal Slug Projectile Weight: 7/8 OZ. (25 grams) Overall Height: 2.75" Overall
  7. First conversion, basic but only took me about 6-1/2 hours. Here's what I did: Tapco G2 modified and polished by me SAW grip (cut hole for for the grip nut) K-Var NATO stock Reused trigger guard (riveted the rear, mig welded the front, built up to look like a rivet) Left safety stop in place Reused/modified axis pin retainer Touched up paint on bottom of the receiver Removed the gas block and modified/opened it to uncover the forward gas ports (3 port gun) Slightly enlarged gas ports This is replacing my 870 this deer season. The conversion made carrying and shooting much more
  8. New to this board, good to see some fellow Michiganders here. Just a note incase you have not heard: Michigan House bill 5038 has passed and is now in the Senate. This bill will revise the pistol definition in MI to bring it more in line with Fedral rules (under 26" instead of 30"). If passed it will go into effect on 01/01/2010 BUT any long gun registered as a pistol under the current law before this date will be grandfathered to the current owner which means it can still be carried with a CPL. If you think you may need to carry a long gun you may want to register it before the new year just
