  1. I thought it was annoying and after firing other AKs for so long I'd forget it was even on there.
  2. Probably, the shepard's crook never failed on my other one. I thought I'd try the plate. I will use a Krebs if I do it again. The way I got in in there finally, there's no chance in hell it's ever coming loose and the pins are falling out unless it breaks in half somehow at the edge of one of the holes. Time will tell I suppose. Hopefully I am just not in a firefight for my life if/when this palte decides to fall out. Lol.
  3. I like the Warsaw length. I have it on my 7.62x39 also, but I used a nato for my 5,45 and it's kinda long...
  4. I made a bullet guide out of a brass fitting, it worked out pretty good and the metal is softer to work with than steel but is there any foreseen detriment to using this (like, do solvents oxidize it?). Thanks for any info...
  5. Yea, I'll post pics when I get it installed. I probably won't have all the parts until middle of January sometime though. - Yea, the one drawback. I don't put slings on mine so it's not a big deal to me but if anyone else wants to then there's this thingy that attaches to a rail that has a sling-swivel on it. You'd need a handguard with a rail then or one of the barrel-clamp on rails (like the NcStar ones. They are pretty decent for being an NcStar. I have one on a .920 barrel on another rifle). - There's no way you're gon'na break this unless to try on purpose. It
  6. We were talking about these in the 5,45 forum. Brownells has an anodized aluminum one now that goes right on very nicely. No spreading or heat tempering needed. I got it for my rifle but you still have to notch the barrel a tad. The screw isn't as long either so I doesn't stick out and look weird. If you don't want to cut your notch in the barrel so deep (you should notch it a small bit however, to help hold it in place) strip the threads in the very middle that will be contacting the barrel. This part of the bolt doesn't do any of the work holding it together anyway. Make sure you LEAVE T
  7. Thanks for the info, I'll try Krebs on the next one I do.
  8. Has anyone else had a problem with their gastube on theirs? I had to (gently as I could) use a prybar and still barely got mine off (no, the problem wasn't the little retaining lever). Then I couldn't get it back on when I was done and I had to grind it shorter a tad and correct the angle where the retaining cam thing holds it in at. WTF?
  9. Ah, well, I went against my better judgement and used the Tapco retainer plate to hold my pins in with. After about 2 hours I finally got it in. Has anyone else had an ordeal with Tapco's plate themselves? &%!@#$ this little $%! thing wasn't even drilled/punched out right to begin with and it took me the good part of an hour to find where and why. The fire selector/safety selector arm barely goes in anyway, but they didn't punch the hole at the very top left correctly, it was off about 1/10" and I also had to grind a half-moon out of the bottom of it (the part that
  10. Yea, that's what I figured. I do things like this on other stuff so I assumed this wouldn't be any differnt. It's the contour of the barrel that got me concerned. I drove hard steel (HARD) pins in it that came with the FSB I got (probably from Bulgy factory then). The punch I used even mushroomed a little on the end from tapping these things in, lol. They aren't going anywhere, and I even attempted to stake them on with a center-punch but really they aren't ever going to come out again. Might still be a good idea for anyone else... Thanks again for this thread.
  11. Lol! It's a long-running joke for some people to call it "Crapco." If you actually read what I posted, I said I have used it and do have one in another rifle. I don't like their other stuff. The SAW pistol grip I had on another gun was a joke. The folding stock is better suited for an airsoft toy also. Just say'n...
  12. Damn, +1 for Brownells. I ordered it one day and it came in the mail like 3 days later. Alright, this thing is all aluminum + anodized. Very light but strong, you have to be completely retarded to break this. It will slide right onto the barrel, no problem. No heating or bending bullsh!t. It has one alen-head crossbolt through it to clamp it on and YES YOU WILL HAVE TO GROOVE THE BARRREL a little with a dremel. Do it right and this thing ain't moving anywhere. Has the hole for the cleaning rod also. The $23 I paid for this part is totally worth not doing the work of cutting &
  13. What's the story behind the giant rectangular stamp on the receivers?
  14. Good job! Yea, I don't know, why do people put adjustable triggers in their AKs? It doesn't need that, and you probably aren't going to be shooting matches with them. To each their own I guess... Just how soft IS the Crapco triggers? Maybe I'll anneal mine when I get it. I have one in my 7.62x39 Romanian and it has been fine so far.
  15. Thanks for sticky'n this. I just did mine and should probably contribute w/ pics I took... Basically, you need patience first. You aren't going to hack through this real fast or else your going to cut the shit out of your barrel. I took my time and still thought I had cut into my barrel bad but as soon as I popped the FSB off it was surprisingly a pretty damn good job I did. I also was going to cut the shroud off the end so I could betetr see where the barrel starts and the block ends but it doesn't really make a difference, just keep an eye on the end of the muzzle to check. I went
  16. Mine is also a Legion. I got it from Atlantic Firearms. They should all be the same thing unless some dealer had an old one previously imported that they didn't sell and it got sold as the newest imports. As far as I know they all are stamped "Legion Izhevsk." It basically just means we are awesome and therefore obligated to owning a kick as rifle.
  17. Lol. I didn't even think about that. Dummy me.
  18. Looks like mine, the paint on these new ones looks extremely glossy to me. I kinda don't like it, maybe I'll spray some flat clear alumihyde from Brownells over it that I got left over. Post some feedback regarding your necessity of a bullet guide or not after you shoot some mags. I don't think I'm getting one unless it becomes absolutely necessary (& if it does I'll just make my own).
  19. Yea, I was thinking about that if I had to bend it a tad. I am hoping it will go right on though. All I have is the picure to look at right now. Seems like it will go right on. I think the hard part will be getting it to stay there, Lol. I read some reviews of this, you do have to file a notch in the barrel which isn't really a problem to me. I would rather do that, actually, instead of worrying about tht thing coming off. One review said this didn't fit a 7.62 barrel, so I don't know if he had some weird heavy barrel or it was a regular 7.62 one. Should go right on the 5.45 then, the
  20. Anyone got a Brownells promo code? (Yea, I'm a cheap bastard). I'm ordering one, we'll see how it goes.
  21. Anyone here used the Mississippi Auto Arms tri-rail forend? I'm just looking for feedback on it.
  22. I liked the idea of this at first but have found out you have to attach the gastube upper handguard and the railed lower hanguard together on this clamp thing that stradles between the barrel and gastube. It attaches with these allen screws that completely turned me off to the idea. I don't like having to monkey with screws, I want to be able to take down an AK and clean it like you're supposed to be able to, like it was designed to do. Other than this, I get the MI forend myself but I'm getting something else. Everything's so !@#$% expensive, I liked the Ultimak rail because it sits
