  1. You would have to mod the saiga mag to get a good fit, but I think I have read some people don't have to. It would be a quick job with a dremel, just have to grind off the lip that acts as the bullet guide. Drilling and tapping isn't hard, I did it and I've never drilled metal in my life. I did my conversion over a few days taking on a few steps at a time after work, patience is the key. It's worth it in the end
  2. I'm guessing yours doesn't have a BHO from the factory? Mine did so I kept it, it's kind of a pain but not bad. Just one more thing to line up while getting the pins thru. The main reason I did is cause I like to shoot at yuppy gun clubs where they've never heard of guns with no BHO and freak out at open chambers and "keep your rate of fire under 60 rounds a minute!". Thank you Ranger Rick, I'm sure the next guy that breaks into my house will do the same! Ok I'm over it
  3. rob-cubed, it doesn't have a pistol grip to begin with either. I don't see the bother in swapping mag parts, but then I never liked the look of an AK. but to each his own
  4. Willy you could probably get any rail painted to match. Or you could leave it black and throw dark earth rail covers over the sections you don't use. Or you could get one of those Magpul AFG's in dark earth, just got mine in black and lovin it. But I do like the look of painted rails
  5. You have to drill and tap the trunnion in the receiver, there are plenty of guides and videos to help. You'll need a drill, a drill press would be ideal but I did it with a hand drill. And I bought a T handle for the tap. I've never drilled anything in my life let alone tap anything and still got it right. You'll also need a center punch, make sure it's for metal and not wood. Sounds like a lot but it's just a few dollars here and there. Make sure you know which trunnion you have before ordering the bullet guide (round of flat)
  6. And if you order from CSS there is a discount code here that I didn't know about dammit! Trust me it's at least worth installing the bullet guide to use AK mags, it's only $20 for the kit if I remember correct..
  7. Look for Surefire's, think they are SGM now. Made for Saiga, a bit more expensive but much better quality. I'm surprised there aren't a bunch of factory mags for sale here cause after converting they aren't of much use unless you grind them down. You may want to hold off spending money on Saiga mags, I bought one and never used it. I had no intention of converting, but it doesn't take long to convince yourself otherwise
  8. Irishsandman, who makes that grip? Really diggin it
  9. I didn't think Tapco made Saiga mags? If you want to use AK mags you'll need to add a bullet guide and mod the mag release
  10. I'd get the barrel cut and crowned and add those HK sights to the gas block. Guess it depends how much you're willing to spend on a project
  11. Aw man y'all coulda told me it was a one minute job! Not sure what you mean about modding the safety, all you have to do is push that hook forward about a milimeter and the safety swings down. Should be hitting t he range sunday, can't wait to shoot this thing! Did myself a favor and never shot it in the factory set up
  12. So I won't have to disassemble the FCG? Man that would rock. As it is right now everything is functional, just haven't fired it. I'm at the office so I can't tinker with it now. I apologize for any annoying questions, just don't want to be confused when I get home. Does anyone have a pic of it in place? Thanks for the help
  13. That's it. Never saw any mention of it in the install guides I looked at. I do have the bolt hold open in as well. So where does this go then?
  14. Don't you love it when you get it all back together and think you've beaten the monster just to realize you've put your hammer spring in upside down and get to do it all over again
  15. 1. There are endless combinations of stocks/sights/rails. 2. You could throw a muzzle brake on, or one of those buffers that go on the op rod (not sure on the rep of those) 3. That's only possible on 308 and 223, the casing on x39 tapers and that's what gives the classic AK mag look
  16. Well I finished her up yesterday and thanks to that spring my fingers hurt typing this Got a newb question though, wth is that dog leg bar in the CSS kit? I'm guessing that's for shotties or 308's?
  17. Well as of last night I got the trigger guard and plate off and drilled for the bullet guide, tonight I'll tap it and hopefully get it all back together. There was a little bit of rust under the plate and the buffer on the dremel didn't touch it. Would a regular bit remove too much material or should I just sand it? And of course the blue pen I bought is bone dry, is there some kind of paint that will work at Wally World?
  18. Let's clear things up. It's not IF the zombies ever come, it's WHEN!
  19. Yeah, I got a Tapco DE handguard and wanted the Magpul stock but was worried about the color matching so I just went with a Tapco stock body on a CAA buffer tube from CSS. I bet if you put the saw grip on you could live with it
  20. I ended up using all tapco furniture cause I was worried about matching. Is the Tapco and Magpul very close or no?
  21. TxStrat, is that OD or Dark Earth? looks OD but my eyes can be tricksy
  22. So I stripped her down last night, took out THREE screws and the stock won't budge...what am I missing?
  23. Yeah, you just have to hit Prestige Level *whatever* on Call of Duty and let a real AK do what it's supposed to
  24. So here's a question. From what I understand the CAA buffter tube is not a US part. How does the parts count work when I put a US stock body on a foreign tube? Will I rip a hole in the space/time fabric?
  25. Thanks for the info. As for the Tapco, well, actually prefer the way it looks. Have no need for a quad rail, and really want to lighten the load. Think I'll be going with the Magpul MOE, otherwise the ACE skeleton for the final touch...
