  1. It's about the software of the shooter, not the hardware (most of the time).
  2. Bingo. I wouldn't worry about the piston or carrier either though. I'd personally keep a spare set of every spring (don't forget the disconnector), a firing pin (retainer because hey, we all loose things), extractor, and that's it. My United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 shoots a much more potent cartridge than the Saiga 5.45x39, uses 2 locking lugs, and is a long stroke piston operated rifle. A set of springs and she's shooting like new. Not bad for a rifle made in 1955
  3. Carrier and spring, yes, Bolt, no. It is not a drop and go affair.
  4. Bolt and barrel life are way, way higher in round count than most would fire. Change the bolt or barrel, and you will have to reset your head space.
  5. Going to require head spacing - not a drop in and go unit.
  6. The mechanical engineering background in me is still paranoid about that stuff in certain applications where failure is absolutely unacceptable. Get out the mig welder and put your mind to rest. 2 coats black spray paint to finish it off, bake it under a 75 watt bulb for about 20 minutes. No MIG - and in there I wouldn't want a MIG anyway. Tig, then Oxy/fuel, then silver solder/braze
  7. Anybody ever braze theirs on after screwing it in? Call me paranoid, but I just can't come to trust only a machine screw and some locktite to hold that part in.
  8. Not bad. I hadn't shot one for about a hear, dropped down on somebodys 10/22 and did a 200 (did stage 2, called flier stage 3 and 4). I was satisfied.
  9. Having personlly shot a 5.5 inch group at500 yards with a stock k31, no optic, using only a sling for support, I believe him. Fellow RWVA instructor here.
  10. Nobody online offered a pallet when I bought my half pallet. I had to pick up the phone and ask around.
  11. That's not a burr, that's a fracture in the material. That said, a burr inside the barrel is gone after a few shots, same on the crown. An uneven crown should not effect stability to a large degree, but an oversized ID on the barrel lands absolutely will. Crown will definitely impact the bullets poa/poi and consistency in grouping. This game is all about gyroscopic stability at several thousand feet per second squared, and north of 175,000 revolutions per minute.
  12. Does it do this with everybody that shoots the rifle, or only you?
  13. No. My wasr2 was returned for keyholing like you describe. My 5.45 AR15 shoots true no matter the distance. The projectile should be stabilized out of the bore.
  14. http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=65917&p=1416723 That should give an idea what the process will be like.
  15. Next up in the 'hard to find in good condition at a good price most of the time" parts to arrive - magazines.
  16. I'm new here, and have done a fair amount of research on building and converting AK's for a few years. A few friends were planning on building some rifles, and we were going to buy some kits and the tooling and have some fun, but that fell through (not to mention pretty much every kit you could find that we could justify the cost on were all pretty well used). So, after building a few AR's, and my free time becoming incredibly rare and precious due to a new job (that I am very thankful to have, and I love it too - hard to beat that), I started looking more at just buying a good AK, such a
