  1. Thanks I will look for some at that price. Some of the matches out here in the West we shoot a large amount of buck shot on plates (with eyepro ofcourse). I have never experienced splatter from Buck Shot. Lots from regular pistol rounds but never shotgun stuff. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  2. That is a PVS 17 Night Vision Scope. Great Scope, a little heavy but very good. I read the book too while I was on my third trip over in 2005 and thought the book was pretty interesting. I read that several of the Marines depicted in the books have a different take on events. I have yet to see any of the HBO episodes but I will see it. Opinions to follow. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  3. I am nearing completion on my S 12 Here she is After LOTS "o" work. Started out with a badly done conversion that I and, my new gunsmith have been cleaning up. The stock is a Tromix. The pistol Grip is Galil. The Handguards are an adapted Ultimak with Knights panels and grip. The Scope is a Leupold Prismatic mounted via a shortened YHM rail extension. The trigger guard is Tromix. The Extended Mag Release is Warfield as is the Bolt Hold Open. The barrel has been shortened and a Polychoke permanently attached with a barrel length of 18.4, in addition the barrel has been throated and poli
  4. Could you post a pic of that? I would like to see that as I think that is a hell of an idea. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  5. Ok I finally got to the range with both of these ammos. All I did was set up for 100 yards on a bench with a bipod and fire 10 rounds of each through a chrome lined, 1/7 twist, 16 inch, LMT MRP. Now the Privi has been sold by Wolf as "Wolf Gold" but it is the 75 grain BTHP Privi ammo. Everything functioned 100% the rest of the day and I ran through about 50 more rounds of the Privi and and other 200 of the Wolf. With out further addo, PICS 75 grain Privi 10 round group measures in at just under 1.75 inches. 75 Grin Wolf 10 round group measures in at 4.75 inche
  6. I am trying to decide which might work better for distant plates and spinners. The #4 with it's smaller shot and larger pattern might be slightly more forgiving of an off-center hit. What do, "all ya'all" (I miss the South) think? IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  7. I read in an Add that it is made in Germany? It's a Roll Crimp correct? Is that more or less desirable? Also any opinions on this stuff? I am looking for some to try. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  8. So how exactly does Cerakote bond to the parent metal? The Cerakote has my interest. As I understand it that there are two types. A room temperature cure and a thermal cure? I have used Duracoat and Norrels and Gunkote and Industrial Hard Chrome. It has been my experience that Norrels and Gunkote (both fine coatings) are very similar in make up and characteristics. Duracoat is as mentioned two part epoxy paint and it is quite durable only because it seems to go on thicker. Industrial hard Chrome is the end all be all of Fire Arms finishes but it is quite permanent. If you need to do any w
  9. THANK YOU ! ! ! that was driving me NUTS IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  10. HUH??? Mine is still going strong. I moved it back to an AR as I am running a Leupold Prismatic on the S 12 now. Did you send it back to Burris? One to Two month battery life huh... that's special. The Burris (granted it has an On/Off switch) is still on the original battery a year later. IMHO if your going to use a mini red dot as your primary optic, the battery should last a little while. Re zeroing for slugs every couple of months would completely SUCK ! ! ! 11. Any Topic I open today does not show the post below the main post but rather a list, and to view any of the posts I have to click on the individual post. Is this new or is this just me? IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA

    E-TAC GUN PORN

Is this a Special color of Gunkote or just the lighting on Parkerizing? Is the bottom rail an Ultimak? Nice job, all around I must say. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  13. Yeah the hunting loads really do have a bit recoil to them. As for the Ironman, unfortunately I only had a week to get ready for the match and next year a WHOLE lot more prep will go into it. That is what I am doing now. So far these seem to reliably function and that is half the battle. Funny thing is there were many Many MANY empty Federal Value pack boxes in the garbage cans at Parma after the match. Yep your right, I can't read. It is 3 3/4 Dram Hunting loads. Let us know how the Recon match goes. I used to be stationed in NC but I never made it up there for that match.
  14. Are you referring to these Chinese made Doctor Optics copies? http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/cnde...ht-RDP-II-.html I have never owned one, but they supposedly go through batteries pretty quickly, which means your going to have to rezero after each battery change for slugs. I have however run a Burris Fast Fire on my Saiga 12 and it survived the MGM Ironman just fine. For as much as an RDP-II would run ya, I would just add $30 or $40 and get the Fast Fire. The Fast Fire fits Doctor Optic mounting bases AND it has an On / Off switch which helps preserve battery life. Th
  15. I was wondering if anybody here had tried Estate Hunting loads for match shooting? The 3 & 1/4 Dram, 4, 5, or 6 shot, high based stuff? It reliably runs in my gun, with a Gunfixer adjustable gas knob on setting "1" along side Slugs & Buck shot. For matches (like the Ironman) where you routinely find yourself shooting all three types of ammo in a single stage. In fact there was one stage that the Federal value pack stuff did not have the umpf to knock down some plates at distance. So I was curious if anyone else was using this stuff. 16. Ok so reading the responses, the fully choked down setting, which I can get to, that says "SLUG" would be a bad idea to actually fire a slug through, correct? Go with something just under Cylinder Bore then? IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  17. Ok got the barrel threaded, then cut down and the Poly Choke Silver Soldered on. We were shooting for a total length of 18 & 1/4 but it came out closer to 18 & 1/2 which is fine. When I crank the Poly Choke all the way down I can get to the "SLUG" setting. Now at this point, the fingers are as closed as possible. According to the paper work that came with the Poly Choke XTRA-FULL is as closed as it gets. Adjusting the Choke out one full turn to XTRA-FULL again, is Cylinder Bore. Two More clicks out are "REVERSE 1 & 2" that is supposed to give the widest possible pattern.
  18. I run a Galil pistol grip and I LOVE mine. The ACE Limited versions do indeed say USA on the inside and they are an exact copy of the IMI part. It even appears to be the same type of plastic. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  19. Does anyone make an IR filter cap for the TLR-1? I'd be interested in that too it it's out there. Alas since the TLR is a LED based light, IR filters do not do much. White light LEDs have very little IR light in them as opposed to a incandescent bulb. I have tried it and you do get some but not much, as in less than the onboard IR LED on the PVS 14. To do the conversion right you need to change out the LED. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  20. Well this bodes well, TLRs are standing up tp 12 gauge recoil. I own both the TLR2 and an M6X. The M6X sits on my pistol on the night stand for things that go bump in the night. I like the mounting method of the TLR a bit better than the M6X. As for the TLR 2, alas it sits in the closet and I keep meaning to convert the light over to IR for night vision use with the pistol. In addition I want to building a dedicated laser for the Saiga 12 but there are a dozen other projects in the que before that one. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  21. I am in the midst of trying out a Leupold prismatic 1 X mounted in a cantilever fashion on a YHM rail extension attacjhed to the Ultimak rail. I picked it up cheap and it's main advantage is the circle dot cross-hair reticle. When I first got it I called Leupold to ask if I could get just the circle dot reticle and they told me not yet. BUT the cross-hairs combined with the circle and dot is starting to grow on me. So far for slugs I use the dot, for birdshot I use the circle. So far so good. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  22. For just a Molle based platform, I am using a very inexpensive chest rig called "a Ranger Rack." I picked mine up at the exchange on base a couple of years ago for $25.00. I think US Calvary carries them these days. I have adapted mine to wider shoulder straps. In fact the SOE shoulder straps were three times the cost of the Rack. It has a bib for pistol mags and LOTS of "Molle Real-estate" for pouches. Alas I don't have a single picture of mine at the moment. I will see if I can get some snapped later. 23. With Wolf coming out with their new 75 grain stuff (the steel cased polymer coated, not the Wolf Gold, Brass cased 75 grain Privi Partizan) I am going to look into using it. So far it does approximate the flight characteristics of the 75 grain Privi ammo out of my gun (16 Inch, 1 in 7, LMT MRP) at 100 yards. Not nearly as accurate but at $260 a 1000 it's almost half what the Privi 75 grain stuff is. Until I get off my ass and start loading 5.56, when I can I will use it. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA
  24. I have done quite a bit of refinishing with both Duracoat and Gunkote. 1. Duracoat is a two part epoxy based paint. It is durable due to the epoxy componet. It cures rather than dries and the low heat others have mentioned speeds up the process. It will create a durable finish. 2. Gunkote and Norrels Molyresin are spray on coatings that requires significant heat (at least 275 to 300 degrees for an hour) to "bake in" to the pores of the metal also creating a durable finish A small note here, for plastic parts such as stocks, I have gotten away with 200 degrees for 2 hours and had it
