  1. I recently used the CSS stuff and it worked fine.
  2. I suppose you machine yours from bar stock? But that would be cheating because you'd still be using pre-fabbed steel. Reuse the factory TG which is a bitch to separate from the weld for most newbies on here, Don't even bother drilling them anymore.Takes all of two minutes (including finding the tools) and saves $20 to boot.My point is a newby can't do a good build in the 30 minutes as "carlg" stated......he later sheepishly admitted more like 45 minutes. Easy to do if your parts are pre-modded out of a box and you don't paint it. Sorry. I didn't read the memo that it you weren't cool unl
  3. Yeah I live in NJ and they have a 15 round limit. So dealing with pinning mags and the bs that's involved with that led to my descion to go with the SGM's. If I ever move to a free state, i'll then install a bullet guide and run real ak mags.
  4. I would love to see a picture of your gun if it only took 30 minutes to convert. My builds take much longer. But then the rivets are shaved clean, hammer propery profiled and trimmed for the BHO inculding counter sinking the hammer axis pin hole, bolt hold slotted for the spring, 30 minutes ......yea OK maybe 45 minutes total work and a night for the paint to dry.. I bought the trigger assembly already modified for the BHO. Not to start a pissing match but this work was child's play. Now the full front end conversion, I'll get back to you on in a week or so as my parts haven't go
  5. Why not just do it yourself? It literally takes 30 minutes to do the PG conversion. The hardest part is getting the stock to fit and if you have a pistol grip with a long bolt, that is a little tricky to line up. Other than that its way over hyped. I just did my first one and I didn't even have a vise. I used a c-clamp with two pieces of wood. Other tools used were: a hand drill, a dremmel, a screw driver, hammer and a punch.
  6. Great info thanks a lot this is exactly what I was looking for. yes I am converting a 7.62x39 Do you mind telling me where you found the polish FSB? -carl
  7. I recently picked up a new saiga iz-132. According to the paperwork, it was produced in February 2013. It has a dimpled reciever yet there are no dimples on the FSB. (just 2 pins). I assume this will make my conversion a little easier?
  8. I am getting the parts together for my conversion and reading a bunch on here. From the reading that I have done it seems that what I want to do is not common. I want to change the gas block(no issue there) and the FSB so both have the retainers for the cleaning rod. I also would like to thread the barrel and put a slant brake on it. It seems regular AKM FSB's have a bigger diameter and will not work on a saiga. Is this true? I know most use a AK74 FSB and go with the 24mm brake. I would like the gun to be as close to an AKM as possible. Any suggestions?? Thanks! carl
  9. I found some used but in good condition at apex gun parts for $35. It will be labeled under Bulgarian AK74 Gas Tube. It looks like it's a hard part to find these days... Hey thanks a lot!
  10. Where does one find an ak74 gas tube for sale? Thanks Carl.
