  1. I'm doing both but leaning toward aluminum. I could send the aluminum ones to get hard anodized with some parts from work, but I'm going to leave them raw at first to see how they hold up. If I would do any in steel I could send them to where I send our oil pans to get coated.
  2. The steel and alum used is 16 gauge or .060". I did some measuring and so I didn't have to add any shims, for side to side fit, I went with that thickness. I was looking to make an aluminum mag from the beginning but steel cost less and we make most of the parts out of .060 steel where I work so I used that for the prototype. I program the turret punch at work(among other things). Picture a punching machine that can change to different tools by itself and can also move the metal around to. Not as big as this but it is the same brand:
  3. I've got to see how much they actually cost first, then I'll see.
  4. Well here is the start of the aluminum mags. I got a new offset tool so I don't have to weld 2 pieces together for the sides. I'll try to get our aluminum welder at work to weld them up tomorrow and see if they warp. I'll also try to get a video uploaded this weekend.
  5. I got 1 in the prebuy and was saying the last week that I wish I had bought at least 1 more. Just ordered one for $40 less then before. Thanks Mike.
  6. en93nsx I've got some questions. I can't really find much info on this event. Where can I find more info? What kind of ammo do you need: For the Shotgun will just birdshot work or do you need buck and slugs? Will Wolf be all right for the AR? Do you shoot at steel? Is there a party Sat night after everyone is done? Did people bring carts to put there gear in when they weren't shooting?
  7. All mig welds. I don't have a spot welder. I did have to do a little grinding to flatten them down in the inside.
  8. I don't know how to make a double stack mag yet. I can't thing of the name but there was a sub machine gun from WW2 that had a double stack mag I thought about getting to try to copy. I used a mig welder that we have at the shop. I haven't learned how to tig yet.
  9. Fantastic, not that many people can make a mag from scratch, let alone make a mag that actually works as reliably as a factory mag. Out of curiousity (and if you don't mind answering), how many man-hours total would you guess you spent to make this mag? Actual working time about 10 hours. Thinking time probably 40. Time waiting for my friend to make me the machined tabs about 2 months.
  10. I posted this pic in the other shot topic. I found this on a AR site today. Who put the FSB on backwards. Otherwise looks like fun but still prefer a Saiga. whoops
  11. After seeing csspecs post about about his 8 round mag and I realized that making a mag was something that I could do. The 3 gun matches I did this summer seemed to mostly run around 10 - 11 shots per section. So my AGPs were a little small. Somewhere on this board I remember reading that when they used to make the Frankenstein mags that they would only go up to 15 rounds so I started there. I have shot about 100 rounds with no issues after getting the machined tabs right. I will try for a 20 rd or larger mag with 2 mag springs later. I purchased some surefire mag springs thinking t
  12. There doesn't seem to be much for big matches up in the north so let's form up a squad. Camping is only $20 per site for 2 nights. I will have a RV for showers.
  13. I did a google search and someone said that some people were running full auto there. But the 1 shot per second does sound weird. Why would you put that in there?
  14. Anyone going? http://www.outbreakomega.com/ Has anyone gone? I'm thinking about going but I don't know what I would need to bring.
  15. Try shooting all new types of ammo on setting 1 first to see if it will cycle. That way you won't have the bolt slamming into the back.
  16. Brother Racer 27 it's generally during election time when many of my brethren feel the need to whack each other. I cannot defend this. It just happens, -rastamanila Seems like the time that I would want myself and everybody else to carry the most. To discourge someone from starting a shooting. Stay safe.
  17. Yeah Seriously Obake... Who is she? I am always stopping to look at her.
  18. I've heard of pinning and of a good tack weld for securing a muzzle brake but haven't heard anything about brazening.
  19. So what is the reason for that gun ban? Why is it only at those certain times?
  20. The Tromix Shark brake does require red thread locker. I don't need to take it off to clean it. O I C. I didn't know that. My Polychoke uses a wrench to tighten it securely. I also like to be able to easily remove muzzle devices, (whatever they may be), for cleaning. You can do a more thorough job that way. I will admit that the Polychoke doesn't look as "cool", but it's infinitely more functional, (unless you're shooting locks/hinges out with your S-12 on a regular basis, and I am not). To each his own.. but to me, having to use thread locker to adequately secure a muzzle devi
  21. It's what I use for trap. They are a little dirty. Used them for a 3 gun this summer and had over 200 rounds though my Saiga with no problems. Thanks for reminding me I've got to go pick some up.
  22. They mounted a saiga on a robot also. Follow this link to MD-20 goodness. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=44278
