  1. I'll agree, Gaddis, the likelihood of needing a 6th or 7th round of buckshot is slim. But so is the likelihood of needing a shotgun at all. I think any weapon one considers using for home defense needs to have all its functions be quick and easy to operate. If that opinion makes me a tactical mall ninja/weekend warrior, then so be it. I think its a very practical concern. It's rough on the fingers BTW. Should probably be easier if I get a pistol grip on it.
  2. Technically, no "law" makes a shotgun a DD. The Gun Control Act of '68 defines a DD as anything explosive, or with a bore diameter over .50" except for shotguns that are suitable for sporting purposes. It then requires registration of all such arms. What *makes* any given shotgun a DD is the interpretation of the ATF, an executive agency that is charged with enforcing the GCA of '68. When the ATF rules a shotgun a DD, they are effectively saying "we will now enforce the law in this manner, as if Shotgun X is a DD". Wierd, but true. Now, if you take issue with that, you are
  3. AFter futzing around with Saiga's for a while, it became readily apparent to me that reloading with a closed bolt was too difficult. It can be done with practice, but I don't feel able to do it under a combat situation. If you can't perform a technique while running and either looking at something else (a target) or with your eyese closed (in the dark), it won't work during combat. So I came up with this.... Holding the gun with your left hand, reach up and grab the bolt handle with either your index or middile finger of your right hand. Pull the bolt back, and hook your thumb aroun
  4. Saiga is no longer for sale. I've decided I need to keep it around for a while longer. If I decide to post it for sale again, I will post a separate ad w/ all the parts, etc. Apologies, FGJ.
  5. Let me add another question for you fine folks: Has anyone ever removed/replaced the metal feed lips? It looks like you can just pry them off. The style of feed lips I have on one mag, the half length tabs, really sucks. When tensioned by a round held against them, they spread the feed lips to the point where one can't get the mag in the gun. I'm hoping I can get a new piece from EAA and just pop it on there.
  6. Has anyone observed two different typese of feed lips (full length and half-length) on Saiga 12 mags? I have one here with long feed lips, and one where the feed lips are just tabs bent over from the metal insert on the back. Any difference in reliability/durability of these?
  7. FWIW, I'm looking at one of these 5.7x28mm and it looks like a seriously wimptastic round. I'm, not volunteering to catch one, but if its anything like a .223 or 5.45, the door of a Crown Vic would pretty much render it harmless. I hear (and this is total internet/gun shop BS, so its probably not worth much) that the 5.7x28 doesn't have a lot in the way of secondary wounding mechanisms. That said, all you pretty much get is a .25 caliber hole. I wonder if they'll go through a trauma plate. So anyway, back to the original topic, are all the 8-round mags ordered straight from EAA
  8. Also, for HD, you don't want your choke too tight or too wide. Too tight and the advantage of a shotgun at range is negated. Too loose, and at medium range, your shot will not be concentrated in the vitals/torso area. Of COURSE the zombies need to have Saiga's as well, even if they can't use them. SOMEONE has to drop the ammo every time I make a kill!
  9. Actually, I don't think your stance unreasonable at all. You're just looking out for the best interests of yourself and your colleagues. It's a condition of humanity for the "best interests" of perfectly decent human beings to come into conflict with each other, however. At the same time as I understand why law enforcement desires the restrictions, I don't think officers should expect people to give up freedoms from a political standpoint to make their job easier. It's just one of those situations where people butt heads. I wasn't aware that ALL 5.7x28 mm rounds could penetrate soft bo
  10. I can't figure out how to get my Saiga handguard off. I want to mount a rail on it. Does it require removing the sling loop screw?
  11. Unfortunately, I don't know any local FFLs who would do that for me. Most of the ones around here are paranoid and a bit greedy. Someone should step up to the plate though. On this board, you could make a killing ordering those for $20, and selling for $25 or $30. -T
  12. I understand that ONLY EAA carries them. To do as you concieve, we would need a friendly LEO who is willing to help us. More often than not, companies have an internal policy of NOT selling their law enforcement models or accessories to anyone but cops. Even so, there is no law against individual officers selling them (at least, not after the 13th). There is a similar situation with the FN Five seveN pistol and its 5.7mm non AP ammo.
  13. A saiga with a PG is STILL an "assault weapon" because one of the "evil features" is the mere ability to accept a detachable magazine, regardless of capacity. I'm pretty sure that's it. also, where shotguns are concerned, you may only have ONE evil feature. Not 2 as with rifles. Regarding a DD, I got out the book of rulings the ATF sends out when you get an FFL. The following text comes from their ruling on the USAS-12. (26 U.S.C. $ 5845(f)(2)): You should be able to find the full text of the ruling on their website. "It was determined that the weight of the USAS-12, 12.4 pounds,
  14. AWB counts for NFA weapons. Parts count does not. The ATF's logic is this: When you manufacture an NFA weapon, they treat it as if you are manufacturing a NEW weapon from the ground up. That is to say, the gun is given an entirely new legal existence. Since you are "manufacturing" it here in the US, import restrictions do not apply. But it is still illegal to "manufacture" an assault weapon. At least, until Sept. 13. I would like to experiment with cutting the Saiga below 12" and maintaining reliable cycling by using Krinkov parts to shorten the gas system. Does anyone know if the
  15. I'm interested in the FAL grip. I think you can email me through the forum. If not, just let me know where to send the cash here.
