If you can get an upper handguard to work by simply replacing the gas tube, what do you have to do to get the lower to work? Do you have to weld something onto the barrel (I'm not familiar with the design, the Saiga is my first AK) or preferably, can you fabricate some kind of threaded clamp-on retainer?
  2. Welcome. I'm a new Saiga person myself. Did a lot of research into 308 platforms and the Saiga came up the winner. I'm very pleased with mine, can't wait to start the pistol grip conversion.

Are you going to modify the rifle at all or just the mags? I started a mag project but wasn't sure if the G3 mag springs would hang up on the front of the now narrowed front of the mag. Also, how to narrow the front of the mag follower, weld it back up, and not wind up with a piece of twisted metal. I got the mag itself to fit the opening though, and lock in.
  4. I noticed the same thing, and I think the hole in the windage adjustment part of the tool is a little too small. I am going to drill mine out a little and try again.
  5. I just bought a 308 yesterday at the San Antonio gun show. Only accesory I got with it was the punch. There were three I saw at the show, two new black stock 16" ($310 and $369) and a used wood stock $399! Also got a brick of the Portugese and was told by the vendor he would not be able to get any more. I haven't tried it out yet, but I am very happy to own one of these rifles. I did a lot of research before deciding that the Saiga was the best gun for the money. I wanted an AK action and also I wanted 308.
