  1. Does anyone know where to get an amd-65 lower handguard?
  2. Saw this in one of your posts naliolith http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/10/amd63reducedhb3.jpg I can't seem to find any of the popular ak distributors carrying just the guard.
  3. does the arsenal have a chrome lined barrel?
  4. I like the look of the amd65 lower handguard, and I have an idea about creating a retainer for it out of aluminum and a tap set. However, would it mount up fine in the rear like the stock saiga plastic grip? Next I found this http://tacticalgears.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=277 an upper ventilated handguard which looks american. Would something like that just bolt up? Also, how do you guys think those two pieces would look together. Ive got an ace stock, so its not traditional looking as is. Lastly, wouldn't these guards burn the shit out of your hand if you fired enough
  5. I found a nice tutorial on replacing the piston over on ak47.net. However, I ONLY have a drill, a semi-functional dremel, and hammers and small tools. No punch or press or anything. Is it possible to get the thing out with a special bit maybe? Or just beating the hell out of the rivet with a spike and hammer?
  6. Ah thanks for those links. Unfortunately all I have is a drill, a hammer, various hand tools, and a dremel. My dremel just broke yesterday....it started bleeding oil then it just gave up. I like the idea of that mount up thing the guy did, single rail barrel mount. Would be cool with an accessory too. He used the galil though, it seems like the wooden grip would need to be filed down some.
  7. Creative seems like adapting a regular one to fit on a saiga somehow..... And I definitely do not want to press on a front retainer. I am also replacing my piston. I drilled either side of the piston a little bit, now Im beating the hell out of the pin with a hammer and an iron spike. No luck so far. Thread on this? Tech and 7.62 didnt show anything for piston or piston replacement aside from what I am doing now.
  8. Thanks for the links guys. I like the idea of the 3/4 inch hitch pins. I'll pick some up. Not sure where my wire went... Without wasting another thread, is there a cheaper option to getting a wooden handguard than picking up dinzags bolt on hand guard retainer? Not disputing its quality, but its out of my price range. I dont like the stock guard, the galil also doesnt appeal to me.
  9. Im mostly done my conversion. However, the axles (pins) holding in the hammer and the trigger keep coming out. On the Cross-conn website he mentions that you need to come up with a way to keep them in. What are some methods to do this. Couldnt find anything in search under "pin" or "axles." Also, what are the binding posts for? I have an ace internal receiver block that covers the rear holes above the pistol grip where the posts would go....do I need them?
  10. I got the block to go in completely. But then I went to install it all and I dont know how the block is supposed to be secured....? The pistol grip nut is holding it in there, and I only have 1 other screw and its nut that came with the ACE block and stock, it seems too short to fit into the hole on the top of the rear trunnion. Am I missing something?
  11. I got the tang cut off on the back, flush with the receiver back. I have done nothing else to it. The block is stuck now on the two lower rear rivets that I believe hold on the rear trunion. So, do you cut the block or the rivets? And to specify, the block is not caught on the rivet heads themselves but on the rear trunion immediately around the rivet heads. I dont know which part is more essential....?
  12. Anyone know when ace stocks will be back in? In my state, the size is fine.
  13. I believe their skeleton stocks are back ordered if thats what you got.
  14. ACE stocks are out of stock from ACE.... Aside from cool sight mounts, is there any reason to keep the tang?
  15. Good info, Ive got all the info I need now. Since I was on the ACE site, has anyone seen an AK with the socom types of stocks....something like this http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_inf...products_id=305
  16. This is the one you're looking for: http://riflestocks.com/AKStampedModsRequired.htm With a quality side folding stock, there are no cons. Ace is quality. Solid lockup, no buttons involved, if you want right- or left-hand fold, you can easily change it. Great. So all that would be required is http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_inf...products_id=351 and the internal block you listed? What about screws to bolt them together? How much shorter is this setup than the stock sporter config?
  17. I am interested in getting a folding stock for my Saiga x39. I do not like the t-6 stocks or the tapco side folder, not at all. I like the looks of the ACE stocks or Tromix, but I can't justify the extra expense of the Tromix. I was looking here http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_inf...da2bfbab1702c28 But I noticed in the picture that the stock mounting block sticks out past the receiver. I have seen the ACE stock mounted so that this block appears inside the receiver. Where can I get that setup? Also, who has the cheapest prices? I looked at Blackjack buffers and they have a ton of A
  18. I do believe that blackjack buffers sells all of that, I bought my ace stock, Tapco g2 and a retaining plate from them. I already had a pistol grip nut and a SAW grip in the parts pile. Their prices seem a bit high. They do have most if not all of the parts, however.
  19. Rather than waste a new thread I figured I would bump this one up....Who has the best package deal on prices for the conversion parts. I am on a budget and it would be great to save on shipping and get all the parts in one place. I need an ACE folding stock, a trigger group, a grip and grip parts (probably saw m249), and that should be it. Who would have all of this in one place? Can't seem to find it.
  20. Depending on your expectations, you can go from bar-b-que or header paint all the way to sending it off for a full blast and parkerize and Dura-/Gun-/Fancy- Coating Anyone ever use high temperature brake caliper paint?
  21. I will check my laws, think I am fine there. Also, what are people using for painting or finishing there guns?
  22. looking at this picture http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=14647 and assuming you cannot have more than 10 imported parts, this is what I would like to do. Please tell me if its the right move. I would keep the receiver, barrel, trunion, bolt, bolt carrier, piston, handguard. That is 7 imported parts, and compliant from what I understand. Now I want to get an American trigger, hammer, sear (called trigger group right?), folding stock, pistol grip, magazine(body, follower, floorplate), us made ak74 style break. That should be 9 us parts. And as I understand it, you can add as many US p
  23. Cool. I am paranoid probably, but what are the chances I damaged the barrel by hitting it. I just fired off 4 rounds and they all shot fine, no abrasion present on the inside of the barrel. How bad would you have to mangle an ak barrel before it mattered and would cause harm to gun or person shooting it.
  24. OK. I layed it down so that the receiver was flush against a piece of wood and would inhibit rotation. Then I put the end of the barrel against a triangular piece of wood. Then I bit the shit out of the fsb with a sledge hammer. Results...it is still mildly pointing to the left, but this "site adjustment tool" I keep hearing about should put the pointer where I need it, the U shaped front site part is over enough at this point. Thanks all.
  25. Yes. The same issue, as a matter of fact. However, if your front site is tilted left (counterclockwise) your shots would be hitting to the right. If this is not the case, I suspect something else is wrong. Mine is rotated slightly counterclockwise and my shots all hit right. Im working on a fix, if I find it I will let you know.
