  1. I got one too, and there's one thing I want to bring up if it hasn't been brought up before. When I screw mine all the way in and then back it off to the "1-" setting pursuant to the instructions, the operating rod/puck comes into contact with the plug when the bolt/carrier goes fully forward into battery. This is evident by feel and sound, if you work the bolt/carrier back and forth slowly as you turn the plug. Also, if you remove the topcover and watch the bolt carrier as you screw the plug in, you can observe the carrier moving rearward with each turn. This means that in my gun,
  2. I also got a Gunfixr plug that came with it, which I examined but did not use as it was not necessary for my gun. It is well made and I'm sure is just the ticket for a lot of people who'd like a better way to tune gas flow. My brother in law bought 25 or 30 drums, which all arrived about a week and a half ago, and he gave me one and one plug. After fitting the drum per the instructions, I tested it on my Tromix 14" SBS and he with his Tromix 18". I ran my reloaded slugs through it, and he used Remington and Winchester sporting clays 1-1/8 oz. loads. Bottom line--if the gas plug
  3. I wonder if it would be possible to develop a gas plug that had a spring loaded regulator built in that covered a hole in it, so that when a hot load was fired and extremely high pressure was in the gas chamber it would overcome the spring tension and vent just enough gas to make the action cycle within normal limits. And when you fired a weak field load the spring would not move because of the lower pressure, and the action would cycle at the same rate as with the hot load. I think there is that same type of gas system on some gun somewhere, but it escapes me now. If it worked reli
  4. Seems there's some confusion in this thread. The question was, what reason should he give to his CLEO as to why he wants a shotgun with an 8" barrel, and not what should he put in the "Reason" box on the Form 1, which is asked by the ATF and not the CLEO. My advice on the Form 1 "reason" box is always to put, "Any and all lawful purposes." As far as what to tell your Sheriff, if you are there when you're asking him to sign it (I just mail my forms in and he signs and mails them back), I would probably say something like collector and investment reasons.
  5. I had my 19" stock S-12 for a while before I sent it to Tony for Tromixization. What a pathetic thing the stock, unconverted gun was, as a shotgun. Virtually any other U.S. semiauto shotgun had a better trigger, better balance, better sights, and better feel. The Tromix end product is so much better, to me there's no debate or comparison. This is kinda like saying what's the difference between a 54 year old obese fugly woman and a hot, tight 22 year old in bed. Sure, the actual "equipment" might feel the same in the dark, but dude, if that's all that mattered . . .
  6. I have a Tromix with the HK sights, and can tell you that the topcover mounted rear sight seems very solid. I would not worry about losing zero after field stripping. I shoot slugs mostly and they group well.
  7. Shark brake wins! In doing a little forensic testing the other day I went downrange to examine my fired wads. Holy mackeral sapphire, the Win. AA wads were just shredded to crap! Took me a few minutes to figure that the sharp-edged vents on the near-bore-sized inner diameter of the shark brake were almost certainly the cause. On a few it looked like maybe a petal or two had caught and started to fold back while passing through the brake, and I wondered if this might affect patterning. I cast my own Lee slugs which use plastic wads, and I do get some flyers. Anyone do any serious t

  9. If someone could e-mail me a good pic of a factory Saiga-12 shotgun, preferably a 19" model, I'd be much obliged. The more pics the merrier. Thanks. My e-mail address is: tavellone@yahoo.com Thanks, Ted in Tallahassee
  10. Back in December I was at a local gun show and there was a new S-12 on the table. It seemed expensive, but knowing they were scarce anymore and had gone up, I bit the bullet and bought it. I knew I was probably paying $100-$150 "too much" for it, but also knew if I let it go, with my luck I'd probably end up paying even more for one later. I SBS'ed it shortly thereafter, and sent it in to Tony for him to make an S06 (HK sights, Tromix folding stock, Tapco SAW grip, slotted Galil style handguard, and shark brake), and have been enjoying it the past few months. Looking back, man am I g
  11. I still have my original Load-All (I) and there's nothing wrong with these things at all. Sure MEC's are a lot better, but the Load-All's work. I use mine these days just for loading slugs & buck loads. I cast my own (Lee) 1 oz. slugs and load them into WAA hulls in a WAA12 (white) wad on top of 36.5 gns. of Accurate #5 and a Win. 209 primer. I also load 9 00B pellets (Hornady) in a WAA12R (red) wad, all other data the same. My Saiga is a 14" SBS (Tromix) and needs full power loads to cycle. When I used to load "normal" shot loads I just used whatever data is in the many availa
  12. "Rem Chokes inside the brake" . . . HOLY CRAP, why didn't I think of that?! My local gunsmith has a long tool that cuts Remchoke threads in shotgun barrels (he did an 870 bbl. for me a few years back) and I already have a set of Remchokes. I am going to guess that an elongated Remchoke wrench isn't all that complicated to make. I am going to seriously consider doing this. Tony, and pitfalls or tips I need to know about, or is this a straightforward Remchoke cutting deal as with any other shotgun barrel?
  13. Ditto on all that. I received my 14" S06 (build #172) a little while back and I am SO GLAD I "bit the bullet" and bought an "overpriced" S-12 "bird in hand" at a gun show about 6 mos ago, SBS'ed it, and sent it to Tony for "S06-ization" and did not try to build it myself. WORTH THE MONEY in my humble opinion. No trying to gather all the necessary parts, fiddling & grinding, going hither and yon to welder buddies and machine shop buddies and Molycoat buddies and endless hours figurin' & fiddlin' and quite possibly ending up with a gun that I may have spent MORE on and was NOT as nice
  14. I've seen reference to "magwells" being "installed" in S-12's. The big hole in the bottom of the receiver where the mag goes in is what I call a "magwell." What are others referring to?
  15. The manufacturer says they're not as strong as the black ones? Call me a party pooper, but I'm not interested.
