  1. If I remember the screw is a 5mm .8 pitch. 10/32 might work but will not have the same thread pitch as the 5mm nor are the initial hole sizes the same. I can not remember the length but if you take your old screw with you you might be able to find one a few mm longer. Watch how long you go. If the screw is too long you will bottom it out against the barrel either denting the barrel or stripping out the remaining threads. You may be able to save the threads using a bottom top or by removing your gas block and running a tap down the threads and worse case scenario tapping up to the ne
  2. You might shoot him an E-mail. Just to check. I think I remember sending him one but can not be 100% sure.
  3. Keep the good news flowing. We are all pulling for you!
  4. another +1 from me. Similar experience. Guy is a die hard.
  5. The trick to aluminum (and all metals) is all about prep. The non-baked finishes will not be as durable as the baked finishes. Prep should be 80-180grit. Preferably sand blasted. The prime coat should be sprayed with in 30 min of you sanding the metal. The aluminum will begin to skin / oxidize with in 30min to 1 hr of it being cut. Apply a lit coat of a good primer. You might hit an autobody supply place for this. They usually have etch primers in cans. Then your color over it. If black you may want to pick up some trim black at the autobody supply place while you are the
  6. I think Dinzag has one. More than likely the last one as well. If I remember correctly it is in the Cobra Style.
  7. Good news. praying for your speedy recovery.
  8. Sorry, Saftey notched on 12ga w/ out BHO On .308 BHO shortened and end rounded.
  9. I took the bho and trimmed and rounded it to the point it still functions but will not get caught inside the receiver. Worked great and I do not notice it is there. The Safety is notched on my 12 but I noticed it often slips off and the bolt slams shut. Not a problem unless I am at a shoot which requires bolt open for transport to and from the line.
  10. 5mm X 12mm if I remember correctly.
  11. Not even a question with Chaos.
  12. The part of the guard that fits in the receiver area is thicker and can be made longer.
  13. Yes, http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-342/Saiga-12-forearm-hand/Detail Contact them and see if they can get you 1..... They can not get one for you. You can buy one of those but it is smaller, probably not the same wall thickness no slash cut and probably made for a 12 ga which will not work on the .308. That one is custom. I grabbed the pic from a private shoot that I went to locally put on by another forum I belong to. The forum where the pic is located it private. I am not taking credit for the pic as I have stated. Not me, not my pic. But a
  14. Yeah fucking right! The day the Earth is swallowed by the sun, most likely. To the OP: That pic is rad, it reminds me of "dragons breath" rounds for a shotgun. Thanks. Not "dragons breath" but some cheap nato ammo from the 80s I picked up for 7$ a box. Luckily I do not live in Cali. As F-ed up as we have it here it is worse there. There is hope. The local Firearms Academy and some other shooting related businesses are beginning to advertise on radio and TV also gun legislation is failing to go through as well. I have my fingers crossed that it can be turned around.
  15. Thanks, Lucky for me the local laws prohibit law abiding citizens to own such evil devices as flash supressors, along with folding stocks and high cap mags made after 94' (apparently these features only became dangerous in 95'). Only criminals are allowed to have those, as well as guns the Attorney General deems unsafe, as they are rarely if ever prosecuted for gun crime, this event is usually reserved for the law abiding gun owner? (shakes head in confusion) It is for the children I am sure. (can't choose between the laugh or cry emoticon)
  16. Not my picture but a good one non the less.
  17. Thanks, It looks like some of the "thou shalt not be named guard"s around as I make those as well. In answer to your question yes and no. I used one of the long tubes of the standard diameter I use to make the 12ga guards. This guard is however about 11" long instead of 9" long. That is where the similarities end. I have not figured out why Saiga chooses to make a different hand guard mount for each rifle. I would think it easier to make all the receivers like a 12 ga (mount wise) then machine each mount to accept the GA or Cal barrel desired. Then make a 9" forend for shotg
  18. I know exactly how you feel. I still have to pick up 2 more to complete the set and then start conversions. Ordered the Hogue grip on Friday, should be here on Monday (tomorrow), can't wait You will like it. Over the weekend I bet about 10 people tried the gun and many of them commented on how good the grip felt.
  19. Ditto! I was at a shoot this weekend and one guy asked where the stormtrooper helmet was. Thanks Went through about 150 rounds with out a hitch. Even impressed a couple bench rest shooters this morning with the feel and balance of the rifle. They had a good time shooting it as well. Thanks. There really is not that much machine work invloved. The trigger guard I bent by hand and milled on the Bridgeport, but with a little patience one could do it with a dril and Dremel, a local machine shop would be able to knock it out, or get a bolt on trigger group. Anyon
  20. I know exactly how you feel. I still have to pick up 2 more to complete the set and then start conversions. Thanks Thanks. Yes, the hand guard is a custom I made up. PM me for more details or the powers that be will shut down the thread.
  21. Thanks. Thanks S could not have done it with out you. I was ready to take the plasma to this one the other day. Thanks. I bent up some 1/4 x 1/8 flat bar that I had in the shop. The slotting was an after thought to blend it with the hand guard. I wish I had spend a little more time finishing the welds. I will on the next one. Thats funny! I have had a couple people suggest a winter camo but I am still feeling out how far I can push the powder coat. I found the tape the powder coater uses will with stand the heat with out printing the 1st layer of po
