WOW!!!

I dunno where you are shopping for your Ar15's.... but if you can find them for less than $400... ( as all of my Saiga 223's have cost in the area of $250-$275...One of which was just a couple months ago...)

I would be buying the AR15!!!! Hell for that money you can be making serious profit... The last AR I bought cost me $950!!! ( and that was last night!! )

(gratuitous thread hijack to post my auction info here... LOL)

Keep looking, usually you can find S223's in the "under $300" range... always check out gunbroker and gunsamerica and the for sale sections of the gun forums...

By the way... where in NY are you from!?!??

Good luck!

Ditto on the AR prices? I can get you a .223 for $290.00+$15.00 shipping. That price reflects 3% credit card

fee.

.308s are more of course, but I can get those to for under $400.00.

My choice would be a bushmaster, over a saiga any day. Saigas are cool, but come on man.

Sweet panther Indy. I'm sure you have'nt had a chance to shoot it yet, but let me know if the ejection angle is Lefty friendly.

Hope your wife is recovering well.

(Sorry for more thread hijack...)

Shes getting better... doing very well now that shes at home...

As far as the new AR... no... havent even PAID for it yet, I probably wont have it for 2 weeks... I cant send out the MO till monday... he wont get it in Ar. till probably thursday... then turnaround UPS back to me... at least wednesday or thursday to arrive at MY FFL... and then I get to go get it...

I already have ONE DPMS AR15... ( check my gallery photos) I traded two saigas for it... an S12 and an S20... I had a few of each... so it wasnt a biggie... Its a NICE AR... but its not the tack driver I am looking for... It will shoot blackbirds off the fences at 250 yards... but I want to be able to shoot quarters at 300... Hopefully the new one will be up to that task with reloaded ammo, and the extra tweaks I am putting on it... I have a MAGPUL stock bid on on GB at the moment too... $220.00 for the stock...

I REALLY hope I win it, cause that is a SWEET stock!!!

I recommend for all those looking for an AR... to consider either anything Rock River Arms... or DPMS... they are very good rifles for the money... you REALLY Are paying for the name when you shop the ABC's... (Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt) I doubt anyone as a FIRST TIME Ar15 buyer would realize the quality difference in either the RRA or DPMS equipment... and save a few hundred off the bat...

They are good rifles!

I just wish i could find one for like $250 in a store i would feel much better about buying it than i would if it cost me more than $300 but that is just me and im a tight wad. Well thanks for the imput, I have to finish packing im leaving for a week long expadition into the adirondack mountains tomarow. Indy, if you have any imput on where i copuld get one here in ny please let me know thanks again

Last hijack..

That is the coolest AR stock I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the heads up about ARs. I hang with guys that only buy the ABCs. They looked sideways when I got my Springfield 1911 instead of a colt.

I'm on the verge, can you gaurantee that a RRA will function like my buddys BM A2? Oops I just baited you into another hijack.

Heres one... a decent price... Ends in LESS than 24 hours.... $290.00  Thats really not a bad price... all things considered. I live in Skaneateles... maybe this summer you can come up to visit, we can hit the range and you can shoot my saigas to get an idea of what you want in a rifle.. let ya try before you go out and buy so to speak... I have at least one of each... and some, several of each.

Its funny... I used to have a girlfriend that lived in Watkins Glen... so I am very familiar with that area...

Eh, if you can afford an AR-15, get it. Converted, a Saiga .223 is great. Makes a reliable combat weapon in a prooven man stopper. Galil mags are cheap too.

But unconverted, the Saiga .223 is not even close... hard to find mags, low capacity, and awful sporter stock..

My baby:

ar15a2-edit-01.jpg

Going to get it threaded, put a Vortex on it, and swap the A2 out for a flat top.

One of these days going to get a .223 and convert it... I find the AKM one of my favorite rifles to shoot, and in .223 it would just be perfect :)

In all honesty I must say that my converted S.223 shoots way way better than ANY of my ARs!

You can find ar's in the high four hundreds here, I got my last one for four fifty, but its an olympic plinker, new from a indivual, there was a dmps(I think) for 525 at my local dealer with a H-bar type of a1 setup. That said, you should be able to get a 223 saiga for the mid two hundreds or so, I got mine nib because I wanted it for a little more. Given the choice though I got the ar's first because I wanted them, then the saiga for a low budget 223 rifle. Plus mags for the ar are far cheaper for sure.

I bought my wife the Rock River AR-15 for Christmas, and it's one sweet shooting gun, now she wants the Beta mag for it. But I like my saiga 223 and 308 and 410 and 20. The saiga is a lot more simplier to take apart and clean, and to me shoots just as good, because if I want to do long range shooting, the armalite AR-50 maybe her next present, or maybe a Jake Brake for the truck.

I had an AR-15, then I bought a Saiga-223, fired both, and wondered why I'd ever bought the AR-15 in the first place. The AR's been gone about a year and I've barely missed it, except that I had built it exactly to my specifications. The Saiga-223 would have seen more use except that I just found its mag after about two years. In the meantime it's been a fashion model for custom furniture. Its future will likely see a bullpup conversion that uses AR mags.

If i were going to get a saiga .223 i would convert it no questions asked. But that also adds over a houndred bucks to the gun. i would probably get most of the stuff from TAPCO. I have been looking at there stuff for a wile, I like how you can get the 3 different colors + there stuff if good quality but you pay for it i guess.

Tapco has a bunch of dealers out there who in many cases sell at lower prices. Tapco seems happy to focus on manufacturing and selling in quantities instead of focusing so much on individual sales. They do have excellent shipping and service, but I can definitely understand wanting to focus more on production and let dealers deal with a growing customer base (and it IS growing.)

MidWestArmory is a member of this site who is a Tapco dealer; he's taken good care of us here, in some cases offering conversion packages and special sales.

I never liked the black rifle(AR) nor was I fond of the .223rem round either. I never had a .223 rifles all these many years until i shot my very first 308 saiga w/16" barrel and i went back to the gun shop after buying another 308/22" barrel and i purchased a saiga in 223 for $259 new + extra mag too($14). I later found another new 223 saiga missing the mag so i got that one too heck i had the mag already. I now like the 223 round its just the spending 1,000 dollars or more on the black rifle that bugs me. Being frugal, cheap is good and with the saiga i can't see any rifle thats better its design is battle proven over the last 50+ years too. What made me more interested in the 223 was that i could buy a 1,000rd case of wolf ammo for under $100 that had me reaching for my wallet right away. Affordable quality rifle and cheap ammo whats better than that? Its the same cost to shoot as an sks. What more can i say and you ain't left yet to get one? Get going!!!!

you should be able to get saigas in all 3 cals for the price of one good ar, most saigas that are unconverted are between 250 and 300 if you look around.
