Trying to Identify the handgun used by the character "Silence" (Jean-Louis Trintignant)

in the 1968 spaghetti western "The Great Silence" Directed by Sergio Corbucci (Also directed "Django" a great film!)

It always caught my attention as you do not often see auto loaders in westerns.

Best Pic I could find was from some foreign movie poster.

Thanks for any help!

Broom Handle Mauser?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C96

Also:

The foreign language on the poster is Japanese

Also:

Clint Eastwood uses a Broom Handle Mauser in the Western "Joe Kidd."

Nice work! I found this on wikipedia "Silence's distinctive rapid-firing pistol is the 1896 9mm Mauser Broomhandle."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Silence.

thanks for your help!

Now, anyone know where to find one & how much?

Thanks Again

Damn, you guys are resourceful!!

I WISH I could afford 1,200 - 1,500.

That full auto video is just SICK!!!

Seems like I read awhile back that the Broomhandle Mauser was also the gun Hans Solo's blaster was based off off.

If it wasn't, it could have fooled me.

And, Juggernaut, they're not really full auto; that guy was just bumpfiring his.

Stright, just going off what it said above the link.

you got to admit, for something pre 1900, still pretty cool.

Don't let em burst your bubble, the FA does exist.

"The Model 712 also featured a fire selector mechanism with the fire mode switch on the left side of the frame. Due to the high rate of fire in full auto (1000 rounds/minute) and light barrel, the full auto could be used with any practical effect only for short time and only with shoulder stock attached. These guns were used in limited quantities by German Army in Second World War. "

No sweat on my end! thanks! :smoke:

the full auto is no doubt sweet :killer: (I'm pretty sure if I look at one in the future it will be the semi.(LOL))

but as you said pretty inaccurate.

I'm all about keeping it in the black. During the Clinton years they wouldn't even let us shoot 3rd burst.

no budget=no bullets I guess. Either way Full or Semi it is currently out of my price range :dollar:

Just had a friend hand me a recent copy of shotgun news

that has an article on them. (haven't read it yet)

24hrs ago I even didn't know what gun it was.

The Han Solo & Joe Kidd thing is a nice bit of trivia as well.

Thanks again to everyone for all the info.

You guys ROCK!

most C96 pistols are not very good shooters. The high end ones are collectors items and very expense and are not fired much if any at all, and the lower end shooter grades are tired from the years of hard service. When you get below the $1000 range you find a lot of refinished, mismatch, worn parts and rebored barrels. Expect jams and function problems. I sold a C96 Bolo on gunbroker a few months ago for $665.00. It was a decent shooter. It was rebuilt, reblued mismatched and rebored, but was a fun plinker.
