Flashlight

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a flashlight. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, but I do have a few requirements:

-I want to mount it on top of the barrel in front of the gas block

-It must maintain a low profile when mounted so as not to obscure the sight radius (I have krebs sights)

-It must be capable of accepting a tape switch

-I'm not looking to spend a fortune on something like a surefire (optional)

Anyone know of anything?

I saw P-Funk in Anaheim back in '76. I'd like to see a band throw doobies to the crowd these days... they'd be put in prison for life for doing that in 2007. Damn I miss the freedom we enjoyed back then, thanks for the memories!!!!

I have had good luck using Chinese 6P and 9P type tapeswitch lights mounted in a 30mm rings, with a rubber bushing I usually make from a strip of rubber. Without the rubber bushing, you will pop some bulbs, maybe at the worst possible time.

Surefires weapons mount lights, which are wonderful, though expensive lights, have a shock isolated bezel to help avoid this problem.

A 12 gage is a heavy recoiling beast. Lights that survive a .223 for years may not last 2 shots on a 12. The pistol grip light proposed by Juggernaut has a certain amount of mechanical slop built in that would be more likely to survive as well.

Mechanically solidly mounted so near the barrel coaxially is likely to impart a good deal of recoil directly to the light. I would plan on some form of shock isolation.

HTH YMMV ARR

300 lumens hehehe :)

Mounts on the picatinny rail forend just fine along with your grip -and plenty of "accessories" to work with for switches or other mounts.

Of course, I would suggest trying to insulate it from the barrel shock as much as possible if you really want to go that route ( I have Krebs sights too).

These are designed well enough for shotgun use as well though.

This is my tip of the day. A economical alternative to the surefire with high lumen. Anything less that 90 is a waste of time in my opinion.

The flashlight MUST meet this criteria:

-I want to mount it on TOP of the barrel in FRONT of the gas block, like the screw in laser/gas selector.

if I didn't want that then I'd get a surefire.

I can understand recoil, which will perhaps lead me to require an LED light.

Any other ideas?

www.commandarms.com makes a few different flashlight mounts and Wal Mart sells a Brinkman 1 inch tube flashlight much like a Surefire for $15 to $20. It will accept pressure pad switches and you can buy in in Xenon or LED. Especially check out Command Arms forward grip flashlight holder that allows you to put the Brinkman or Surefire or their own light and it is very reminiscent of the same effect you get from the $400 Surefire version for less than $60 light and all.
