namkrab 0
Finally doing a conversion on my .308. Not as difficult as I thought it might be. But, I do have an issue I thought someone might be able to help me with. It sounds kinda simple, but after I removed my disconnecter spring from the factory trigger, I absolutely can't get it into my new disconnecter. (i think it's called a disconnector, correct me if I'm wrong) Any tips. Will I get into trouble if I try to drill a slightly larger hole? Thanks for any help you can give. ClickClickD'oh 1
The original disco spring won't work in your new disco. You can order a new one from Tapco.. or sacrifice a clicky type ball point pen to the greater good and use it's spring.
jakowski 0
i just over drilled a bigger hole in the new disconnector, 3/16" cobalt i believe. good luck
quicksilver1689 0
is this conversion the same as the 7.62x39 or .223's? i found some tutorials and videos and wanted to make sure it was the same thing because im about to order a k-var stock, tapco saw grip, pistol grip nut, tapco g2 trigger assembly, a mounting plate for the saw grip to make it more stable. Saigaczech 9
The build is a bit easier. No need to cut opening for the trigger group or pistol grip screw, you will find them under the plate attacehd to the bottom of the receiver. Also no need to drill out the hammer and trigger pins, let them be and their location is correct already. I used the same parts as you, Kvar stock, TAPCO Saw grip and G2 Trigger . Yeah, the G2 trigger needs a bigger hole in the disconnecter, can be drilled out if you are careful. You may also have to grind some metal off the G2 Hammer in a few spots to allow it to swing cleanly in a Saiga 308. Make sure you check function for safety before taking it to the range, see the sticky about the safety issue above in this group. I ended up welding on some build up to my stock safety lever and filing it to fit. The hammer-sear interface might need to be cut, stoned and polished for smoother pull and a more positive engagement. I had to do all that to mine before I was satisfied with the trigger. If you understand how an AK trigger system works it is not too hard. Good luck on your build. Edited May 14, 2008 by Saigaczech
cellsworth 21
My recommendation is to go to dinzagarms.com and to use his FCG for a pistol grip .308 conversion. Dinzag's FCG resolves ALL of the issues particular to the Saiga .308 FCG. He even includes the proper disconnecter spring already installed in the assembled FCG. Deal with Dinzag, you won't be sorry. namkrab 0
Thanks for the help. If I can find a spring that's strong enough, and fits, I'll do that instead of drilling. I'm paranoid about ruining it. You know, you all are so helpful. I was very concerned about attempting the conversion myself, since I'm not really that "mechanically inclined". But I kept coming back, searching, researching, and then seaching some more. It actually is kind of fun. So, I'm gonna continue until I'm done. Then I can take a well deserved break! engbob 0
while we're on the subject.....I know Dinzag makes great stuff (i've used his parts in my .223 conv), but i was wondering about his $80 trigger group compared to the Tromix Fire Control group for $45. It looks the same, what is the difference?

It looks the same, what is the difference? Go to Dinzag's sight and look. His description of the product makes what he offers very clear. I bought one, and felt that $80 was a good deal considering how much work he had to do to address ALL of the issues peculiar to the .308 FCG; thus providing a drop-in assembly that makes the conversion VERY easy. engbob 0
I saw that, but the Tromix FCG has been modified too
buckandaquarterquarterstaff 5
I just took two small stainless steel "pen springs" I bought at a hardware store and weaved them together. Did it on all my conversions, and all work just fine. It's rediculous to pay shipping for a tiny spring, so I just went to my local hardware store and problem solved.
