Anotehr Newbie, Another Question....

Recommended Posts

Been reading a lot of posts.

I just picked up a Saiga 7.62x39 at a local dealer.

Only thing I am adding to it at this point is a scope.

My question is:

A: is it illegal for me to use any magazine other than the one it came with? Can I use my other AK mags?

B: If I need to change a part to keep the correct number of imported parts below ten, How do I know what was manufactured where originally? Or should I assume Saiga made it all in Russia?

I want to be sure that I can install a US made Gas Piston to stay legal so I can use other magazines with my otherwise unmodified Saiga.

Is this correct?

Thank You ALL!!!!

if you use a hi-cap mag, then (from what i understand) you hae taken the rifle into a "non-sporting" configuration. In that case you can't have more than 10 imported parts. Even if you use a US made mag, you will still be over the parts count. Most US made parts have "Made in USA" stamped on them, and make it easy for you. If they don't you can usually see that info on the website.

If i'm wrong some of the other guys will be able to help, that's just my understanding

You can use any 10-rd magazine and still remain compliant. If you use higher capacity (20, 30) then 922R kicks in.

Every part in your stock rifle is foreign made.

With a US gas piston and all-US high capacity mags (Master Moulder, Surefire) you will be 922R compliant. You can't use just any magazine - you need the 3 parts for compliance.

I have a new Saiga 223 with 16 inch barrel and skeleton/pistol grip stock.

This rifle is in stock configuration right now.

Questions:

Can I mount a scope and necessary scope mount and still be compliant ?

I'm wondering about this on a stock SKS also.

Scopes and mounts have nothing to do with 922r. Throw whatever glass and mount you want on it

Does this include the SKS if the rear receiver cover is replaced with a scope mount ?

Please visit the 922r section and familiarize yourself with the law.

Neither dust covers or scope mounts are countable 922r items.
