Okay, I know there's probably been a gajillion threads on this, but I need some advice. I'm heading to a gun show in a few weeks, and I'm looking to pick up another pistol and I have no idea where to start. I kinda know what I want feature-wise, but I'm sure there's lots of pistols out there that fit them. So, requirements:

.40 S&W (I'd love it if I can keep my caliber count to a minimum)

SA/DA

Positive safety (none of this cocked and locked stuff)

exposed hammer (not a deal-breaker, but it'd be nice)

concealable (looking to get my concealed carry permit soon)

Okay, I'm thinking a CZ, but don't know jack about them. Or a Beretta, I have a 96, but it's pretty big, and I think the barrels all shot out. I'm gonna post another topic on that. I'm also wanting to get a CX4 Storm in .40S&W, so maybe a PX4 would be a good addition to the pack. So what kind of pistol have I made you think of? I have big hands, an FN 5-7 fits well, as does the Beretta 96, but glocks are too square for my hands.

Suggest away!

I guess I just like that tactile and visual readiness that having a hammer gives. I guess I'm an old fashioned youngster. :P That said, I'm not opposed to change. What are the caveats of a striker gun? What kind of indicators are usually there to let you know if the hammer is up or down?

Thanks in advance,

Acer

The sub-compact XD .40 is pretty bad ass. IIRC, it has a 13 round capacity and an optional 15 round capacity. It also has what I believe to be called a "backstrap" safety, and according to Racer 27 an actual safety now. I'd check one of those out. If you look hard enough, you can find one for around $450 new.

sorry Acer, was not meaning to mock your desire for hammered handguns..... I like them also, hence my Ruger P95

i simply meant that the options in .40 with a hammer are somewhat limited.

now if you want to get into striker fired .40s.....xd40 SC is a great option,

but the Taurus 24/7 OSS is a pretty good as well - second strike capability is great feature! Some people have no faith in Taurus but others have had only great experiences. I don't own any yet, but like their designs!....seriously want a Judge!

Oh, no worries man. I guess I've pretty much got my shortlist then. CZ75, Taurus 24/7, and XD40. I think I like the Taurus, just from the reviews and pictures, but we'll see what the price and feel difference is when I get to the show. Hadn't heard much about the Taurus before you mentioned it, thanks!

Yaayy! Thanks for all the advice everyone. I finally decided on the Taurus 24/7 Pro in .40. It was either that or the XD40, and I'm not a big fan of the lack of a manual safety on the XD, and the 24/7 just fit right, so I went with that. And since I know y'all will be asking for gun porn, I took the time to take a few (admittedly bland) pictures.

It's got some nice sights too, that was another deciding factor.

It also came with a nice little laser. Don't know how sturdy it is, but hey.
