The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of

Recommended Posts

No surprise there. Those who oppose self-defense rights have always used misinformation and lies as part of their efforts to destroy those rights. But let's not judge those who are trying to destroy our rights too harshly, after all if they admitted the simple fact, that based on the ATF's own trace data compared to the total number of firearms seized, that at most only about 17% of the firearms seized from criminals in Mexico originated in the U.S., it wouldn't get nearly as much media air time for them as their lie of 90% does. A great bunch if hypocrites who firmly believe in the concept of 'the ends justify the means', and even when their lies are exposed they try to spin their way out of it. Like the last lines in the article when the guy from the VPC effectively admits 90% was a false claim all along, but then harps on that something still needs to be done about guns. I have an idea, since the criminals in Mexico get the money to buy their guns from the drugs they smuggle into and sell in the U.S., why doesn't the VPC instead demand the Mexican government crack down on the criminal's drug trade flowing across the Mexican border? Afterall, no drug profits would mean no money for Mexican criminals to buy guns with. Oh that's right, the VPC doesn't actually care about the drug trade or reducing crime, they only care about pushing their own flawed and twisted vision of what the U.S. should be like by having our rights legislated out of existence.

Yeah, they cleverly omit the part about "90 percent of the TRACED FIREARMS originate from the U.S." Isn't that the whole point of buying guns on the black market??? Hello??? Anyone home??? But that doesn't serve the MSM or the leftist agenda.

This is just like (one of many of) B.O.'s bogus campaign claims that '95% of Americans will receive a tax break' under his grand plan.... eeerrrrr... only problem with that is the fact that something like 40% of Americans don't even pay federal income tax because they don't make enough money. So how the hell do you give tax breaks to people who don't pay taxes in the first place....? That's a real head-scratcher... I believe this is known as income redistribution. Now if you clarify that 95% of people who actually pay federal income taxes will get a tax break, then that changes everything, but just doesn't quite energize the liberal base the way they want it to.

Just another shining example of how a stupid, corrupt media, and dirty politicians selectively use statistics to further their own agendas.

I think Obama's camp explained that by claiming it would be in the form of a tax credit. Meaning, that people who normally don't make enough to pay taxes would actually pay negative taxes... meaning they would actually get free money back. So the suckers like you and me who actually DO pay taxes would just have a portion of that go to people who don't deserve it. I haven't really looked at the current budget to see if that ended up in there, or wherever, but I believe that is how he means to do it.

Call it what you will, but you summed it up that tax-paying suckers like you and me are going to be footing the bill for all these socialist incentive programs. I actually don't have a problem with low income people not having to pay taxes... but giving them back 'credits' is just ludicrous. Just like B.O. said to Joe the Plumber's face... he's just 'spreading it around'. Income redistribution, tax credits, whatever, amounts to a taking from us suckers.

I know he downplays it up by saying he's taking it from the 'rich folks', but many of those same people are the ones who put their balls on the chopping block in hopes of being rewarded for their risks and efforts, and in the process create jobs for many of us suckers. De-incentivizing (is that a word?) success is only gonna make things worse. Why take a risk to be successful and make a lot of money (and create jobs), when the gov't is just gonna come take most of it away and 'spread it around'? Risk-return is one of the fundamental principles of economics and capitalism.

Sorry to stray the thread off-topic. I only intended to use this as an example of scumbag politicians (and not just dems and libs) and the media manipulating and misrepresenting facts and figures in order to serve their ends. It's pathetic...
