BronCobraJet 80
http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t90/broncobra/weapons/ I still have a ways to go. My HK sight block should be here soon and I will have to cut it down and fit it, my bayo lug should be here soon as well and I will need to see where to weld that on at. Holes to be filled, paint/coating to be decided on and slapped on, maybe the sliding safety installed. I can see light at the end of the tunnel now at least! Happy and Safe 4th everybody! BronCobraJet 80
what did you use to get the new top cover opened up with such clean lines?ohh and what kinda handguard is that? nicely done thus far Believe it or not, I just used a dremel with a reinforced cut-off wheel. I used some graph paper to wrap around the old cover to get an idea where the openings needed to be, then transferred that to the ribbed cover that had light colored masking tape on it. For the radiused corner, I drilled a series of small holes then used the dremel with a grinding stone to shape it. I found a deepwell socket that fit inside the old guard and put it in the new one and beat on it with BFH on soft wood to help open up where the recoil spring goes. Then I had to put it in a vise with jaw pads that stuck out so I could spread it wide enough to fit. It is very "springy" and doesn't like to spread. Beat on it some more with a rubber mallet. Minimal filing was needed. You really can't baby it or you will never see any progress. I was scared I was going to rip the corners on the end at times, but it all came out good. Just go slow and keep a TIGHT grip on the dremel lol. I used a slow speed to keep it from kicking back and marring up the cover. Straight lines were "eyeballed" until they "looked right". It was difficult to make it look straight where all the compound curves were, they will throw you off! The guard is a Fuglystick. Jaymce (a member here) sells them and CSS carries them now also.
