RobRez 1,895 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Share Posted September 24, 2009 With all the debate on Gov. run health care, I got to thinking,(imagine that!) and I wondered "What aspect of our lives is the government NOT involved in??? I could only come up with "Breathing" but then remembered about pollution credits, and that the man is involved in what I breathe. tover26 18 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Share Posted September 24, 2009 Well, initially your post made me think of Epicetus... most of which boils down to: Things that can be taken from you - like material possessions, but also data. Things that are intrinsically yours - your arms, senses, ability to turn data into information and form opinions. Things that only you can let someone take from you - your attitude, integrity, free will, the ability to form beliefs based on your opinions. Frankly, I'm a bit irritated that I was shooting for something in the 2nd category but the government pretty much controls our news/information flow to the extent that you almost have to separate "what you know or believe to be true" from things I know the government can't touch or influence.
