evlblkwpnz 3,418
I got tired of needing the tool to adjust the plug. I can do it with my fingernail now. I only removed the material that was in the way. I didn't want to 'bob' the whole front as I don't have access to a good sander and I didn't want to have to reprofile the whole front either. I drilled a 'vent' for the gas to exit the port a little easier. The hardest part was getting the 'vent' in the hadguard lined up with the port. I got really close and filed it to get it just right. I like this handguard better now. I have an HD camera and it is extremely light sensitive, sorry about the bad pics.
shades_of_grey 1,092
Honestly, I don't know why so many people whine about "needing a tool" to adjust the gas plug index. Mine's OEM, and I've always adjusted it with my fingernail. It's really not that difficult without any modification. That said, nice work, evlblkwpnz. Venting the handguard for the gas port will help your gun cycle more reliably. Edited April 9, 2010 by post-apocalyptic
emr454 1
I'm thinking about re-profiling the end of the detent to be round, so that it will still hold the plug in position, but be hand adjustable. Of course, it will need to be about half as long as it is now to work. Eric
Paulyski 2,227
Every time I fire mine, 50 shots in & the threads get so covered with crap that it requires a tool anyhow... And I use AK grips, so my whole gas block is completely exposed.

And I use AK grips, so my whole gas block is completely exposed. Needing a tool to turn the plug once it's nice n fouled is one thing. Needing a tool to press in the index pin is what I was referring to. A fingernail works fine for that. Since my gun's refinement down at Lone Star, I hardly ever need to change my gas setting anymore; I might need setting 2 for Winchester "Universal" birdshot if I've already fired ~300+ shells that outing. Otherwise, setting 1 is gtg, regardless of the ammo. Edited April 10, 2010 by post-apocalyptic
evlblkwpnz 3,418
For my short nails there is no way I could push that detent without something other than the fingernail. This is much better for me now. I keep everything fairly wet so it cleans easy and I don't think I will need a tool now after rounds have been fired. I'll see soon. I plan on getting out to the range for some test firing again. Maybe tomorrow BTW I got my AGP stock.... that's another thread though....
elia.jon1 1
you turn it out to setting one.....not super tighten it to setting 1....
Etek 32
Tool? What tool? I use a Quarter. Pushing that little nub of a dent pin could be an issue with fleshy fingers or short nails.
