supertex 242
my muzzle brake (ak74 type, 24x1.5mm) when tightened til it stops, is about a quarter turn shy of the pin , so i have to back it up 3 quarters of a full turn to lock into the detent pin, which leaves the brake wobbly, is there a cure, crush washer , file down brake on muzzle end , or don`t worry about it? thanks

modrisco 16
What you describe is pretty typical, in there is some degree of wobble. In the past I've used heat resistant (yellow) teflon tape to tighten up the play.
chevyman097 2,579
I wouldnt worry about it. Ive never known of anyone who suggested they needed to be completely tight.
308SAIGA 55
All I wanted to see was the spacing you have between the brake & barrel to see if you can even get a crush washer in.... I would recommend using some JB Weld then pin it in place.....
chevyman097 2,579
ohhhh LAWD please no more JB weld! As long as your brake is alligned correctly and it screws all the way down a little bit loose is fine dude. Its not like wobbling side to side or any crazy shit right? gregomega 929
Ive also heard of using teflon tape. Mine also jiggles ever so slightly and it doesnt affect my accuracy. Forgive my spelling. No JB weld though.
vulcan16 971
Lawn mower spark plug washer may work.
zero2epiphany 4
Ive had good luck with teflon tape. Was for 14ml lh though.
imarangemaster 315
Teflon tape works, but will blow out eventually. I had a cheap brake I got from Combat supply, and it was loose. The one I got from CNC Warrior has very little wiggle, and was about $30. Well worth the money.
Stansplace 414
A little wobbly is fine, but if you wanted to you could file a little off the end of the brake until it went that last quarter of a turn. I would like to reiterate my point that if you use JB weld on a gun, you should be caned, tarred and feathered, and teabagged by a leper. This is your brain on JB Weld.
gtnichols 51
just slather it up with JB,.. :lolol: :lolol: Ive also heard of using teflon tape. stnls1911 55
I don't think I could convince myself to use JB Weld on any gun I own. YMMV Edited January 19, 2011 by stnls1911

danklab 57
I love that avatar man. I'd use the heat resistant teflon tape. You can also use the crush washer for an AR-10.. which is what I've got on mine and it works great. But I'm not using a detent pin either.. you might not have room for the crush washer with that. Rhodes1968 1,638
I can't tell who's being facetious here. They are just dragging out an old argument here about JB weld is all. You would never use JB on a muzzle attachment nor would I weld it though some do. Run it by a smith he can see exactly whats happened and tell you how to fix it. CHOP SUEY 2
I filed the top edge of the brake near the notch and now it turns just enough to lock up with the pin, its pretty snug but not totally. Edited January 25, 2011 by CHOP SUEY
