doorman 6
Ok I got my conversion started and got everything ready to go back together. Here is my question: With out spending money on duracoat, what is the best spray paint to use to match the black finish? Thanks
vulcan16 971
Duplicolor 500 low gloss black. Install the TG before painting, and it lessens the chances of scratching the paint later.

xbmxxx 5
I used the krylon camo ultra flat black on mine, looks identical when its dry. any auto parts store or wal mart should have it.
22_Shooter 1,560
On my S12, I used the Duplicolor, too. Can't remember the exact color, but it was flat black and matched the rest of the receiver almost perfectly. Now........when I converted my 7.62x39, I didn't even refinish it. It's still rocking the bare steel.
MrOneEyedBoh 14
yeah you can heat the metal a bit prior to painting. It will help a little bit with adhesion. Also, if you want get some scotch-brite pads or maybe some 600 sandpaper and scuff it a bit too.

Bvamp 604
for future reference, this is a near perfect match in the matte black http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1143/avs|Color_1=Black/Product/AEROSOL_BAKING_LACQUER
JAldrich2008 28
I used Duplicolor 1634 flat black engine paint. If you mask the spot you're painting with loosely taped paper towel, the edges will fade together and the paint line will become all but invisible.
fauxknight 30
Rather than get some new flat paint, I used some black satin finish that I had recently purchased. Taped off with blue painters tape and it worked out fine, even hit it on the side where I covered up some tool marks from removing the old trigger assy. Even with the slight sheen difference the edges are feathered well and it all blends perfectly, and if it wasn't I could sand the sheen off, most of the bare area will never be seen anyays the pistol grip and trigger guard cover a good portion of it up during conversion.
