KC913 324
Just got the rest of my parts today for the Saiga 12 SBS (12.5 inch barrel, factory gas length),100 folder and new trigger guard rivetted in place. Some of you won't care or appreciate any of these pics, but some of you enjoy looking at this kind of shit just as much as I do. I think this will be a pretty sick Saiga 12 once it is complete. Barrel is being cut back to 12.5 inches and re-threaded, gas system will remain at factory length, all of the un-used holes in the receiver are going to be welded, new trigger guard riveted, form 1 info engraved and refinished. Based on other threads I have seen regarding the 100 series trunion, people have had to remove some material from it so that the bolt carrier would not run into it on the Saiga 12. This might be old news, but, from what I can tell, the newer Russian trunions that K-Var carries come from the factory ready to work in the Saiga 12. sKott's pic showing the area he had to remove: Pics of the Arsenal folding stock and new Russian trunion I received from K-Var today: AK-Builder trigger guard and Saiga 12 latch, Arsenal folding stock w/new Russian trunion: The unconverted S12 in this pic will probably be the SBS, although I may just use my first conversion (middle) as the SBS since it cycles pretty much anything and it's all polished up and cycles smooth. Sending it off tomorrow, hopefully. Now I just need to track down the elusive Izhmash buttpad (if you have one, PM me a price) and eventually the Izhmash solid folding stock. I also ordered the adapter pin from K-Var, just in case I find the Izzy stock. More pics in about 3 months, unless I get bored and take more before sending it off. Edited to add: I am also going with the Arsenal Saiga 12 FCG rather than modified Tapco G2 on this one. Edited February 25, 2011 by KC913

evlblkwpnz 3,418
KC, That is basically the same build that I am doing. You have excellent taste Just curious, why not DIY? I did all of my AK100 install except the rivet pressing. TAC47 did it for cheap and did a good job pressing the rivets. The fitting was stressful, but I want to do another already. I like a challenge.
KC913 324
Very nice, sunny! evlblkwpnz - for the price I was quoted to do all of the work, I could not pass it up. It was basically the same cost most of the business members here charge just to cut the barrel.

bc5000 26
You've got good taste in trigger guards. I can't stand them half octagon shaped ones. How long did you have to wait for the stock and trunion? Seems like they have been out of stock forever. I went to their site but it's down right now.

How long did you have to wait for the stock and trunion? Seems like they have been out of stock forever. I went to their site but it's down right now. I have the angled trigger guard on my other S12's, but I am picking up more of the AK-Builder trigger guards to replace them. The stock and trunion set came today and order was placed on the 19th. Not a bad time. I have waited much longer for items from them before. http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17665
bc5000 26
They must sell out pretty fast. I've been regularly checking their website and they are always out.
KC913 324
Sometimes they list stuff weird. The Russian and Arsenal folding stock sets have been in stock for a while.
bc5000 26
I can't find anything tonight, when I click on something it switches to their mobile version. I think there are 3 different kits with the stock and trunion. I'm kind of confused which one a guy would need.
KC913 324
I went with the Arsenal one for an easy compliance part for the time being and I don't like the looks of the new Russian stock with the slot for the strap-on pad.
bc5000 26
Ok I was looking in the wrong place. I went down to the Arsenal link and I think I found it, but when I click on it there is nothing there, just like your link. Would yours be part no. AK-LSFBHR ?
KC913 324
On your computer, if you're on windows, go to start > Run > type CMD and hit enter > type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter then go back to the page and see if it shows. Or try clearing your browser cache. But yes, that's the one I picked up. Edited February 25, 2011 by KC913
evlblkwpnz 3,418
3 months is good if that is actually how long they take to do it. I can't wait to see pics too
sapper1371usmc 107
Are they going to do the port work as well?
KC913 324
Are they going to do the port work as well? Yeah ports will be opened up or added if required. 12.5 inches leaves a hair over 3 inches of barrel in front of the gas block. Shouldn't need much work to get it to function. Paulyski 2,227
Edited to add: I am also going with the Arsenal Saiga 12 FCG rather than modified Tapco G2 on this one. I've heard mixed results about that FCG. The hook is taller than the Tapco. Beefcakeb0 has one that's too tall for the carrier to clear it unless the trigger's pulled. Please update with how it fits YOUR gun. It's finish is smoother than the tapco, so I'm very interested in your findings.
KC913 324
beef used the rifle FCG and modified it. He didn't realize it wasn't the Saiga 12 specific til he went to install it. Description says it was molded after the factory parts. Pics look good. KC913 324
Know your sending your S12 off but do you have to make any modifications to the Arsenal stock or S12 to get that folder to fit the converted S12? thanks! The stock and trunion should fit without modification to them, however, on the receiver, the factory rear trunion has to be removed, which requires drilling out the rivets. The rear of the receiver needs to be cut at a slight angle and the left side (optic mount side) has to be cut to accommodate the hinge. You also have to drill a hole on the left side for the button to go through and another oval-ish shaped hole on the right side for the other side of the button to push through and the new trunion has to be riveted in place. Also, a slot has to be cut towards the front of the receiver and a small hole drilled through the bottom to accommodate the latch. schultze13 354
Here's to waiting... Can't wait to see your build. Doesn't the metal stock make it a little hard on your sholder? I am going to use the ploy stock and I have a AK-100 recoil pad. I just figure being a little shorter it would kick a little more.
bc5000 26
KC, I'm trying to get an idea how the length of your Arsenal stock compares with my K-Var Warsaw. Do you know the approx length from the middle of the butt plate to the back of your receiver? thanks!

Shouldn't need much work to get it to function. 12.5" gun w/ oem gas tube requires 5 large ports or 6 smaller ones. Gas block hole needs to be opened up to accomidate the additional ports. Mine has three ports. Runs all the normal stuff just fine. No excess fouling.

I don't think there's really any difference b/n a metal and a poly stock as to the recoil. I do have one of those cheap ass slip on recoil pads that is hard as a hockey puck. I increases the surface area that contacts your shoulder...which helps some. After a few hundred rounds the little griper nubs will make your shoulder look like someone hit you with a meat tenderizer, though.
