Lone Eagle 839
Well, my FFL bud called me last Saturday from the fun show. He had a lead on a Saiga AK conversion for me. It was at a local shop I've done a ton of business with in the past. I jumped in the truck, and tore over there. He had a Saiga alright.....an Arsenal build with the Warsaw length stock and Bulgy AK74 24mm brake on it. The rails had hardly any wear on them, bayonet lug was intact, and everything was tight. He said the previous owner didn't even break it in before he brought it back with issues. He couldn't find anything wrong other than the guy didn't break it in properly. As we were talking, he offered to let me test fire it in his back room(he's a Class 3 dealer, and test fires EVERYTHING that comes in). I slapped the 30 rounder in and went full-bore rapid fire, bump firing the last 10-12 from the mag. I was in love. I asked the dreaded $64 question, and almost passed out at his answer: $400 OTD with the factory 5 rounder, 2 30 round Tapco mags, and 2 30 round Romy steel mags. I plunked down the cash, flashed my CWP, and walked out. The wife affectionately named it "Black Beauty" when I got home. I haven't had a chance to do a proper range print on it, but did bust off a couple of mags at a bud's place. It totally hated the Winchester White Box stuff, but chewed up everything else we fed it including some Yugo M67 I fed it. I was able to ring a 10" gong at 100 yds even with the "dirty dog"(aka Wolf) ammo consistently. After a 200 rnd break in, it runs like a Timex watch. Well, here she is, Black Beauty, all clean and ready for the Zombie Apocalypse, general SHTF. or the poor soul unlucky enough to pic the wrong house. Even the bolt carrier is black. The arsenal marks. Appears to be an '09 model? And the phrase that makes most AK owners drool around here. And some more gun porn. My refinished Mosin Nagant 91/30 Redid with Minwax 225 Red Mahogany and BLO. My son calls it "The Dragon" because of the fireballs it produces. My DP marked Chicom SKS with custom muzzle brake. This is my wife's Go-to gun.
n102788 6
Congrats and at a great price too. I always shoot steal case ammo through mine with no problems. Have fun with your new obsession.
shades_of_grey 1,092
That's not just another converted restored Saiga rifle, that's a SGL21-61, (assuming it has an intact accessory lug as well as the bayo lug, else it's a SGL-20). The 21's sell for ~$789 new right now, (bought mine during the '09 sale ), so you got a great price. They're fantastic rifles. Congrats!
THX1138 7
Congrats on a getting such a good deal. That is nice looking rifle.
BigChongus 765
Holy crap, you just picked up an Arsenal for almost as cheap as a bone-stock unconverted Saiga. Edited August 13, 2011 by W8lifter
Lone Eagle 839
Yep, both the bayo lug and the accessory lug are intact. I have a Chinese bayo I got off another board if I can remember which box I stuck it in...lol. Thanks, Post-apocalyptic. I couldn't find a model number on this one, but you just answered that question. They go for around $950 here now if you can find one NIB. They had a 5.45x39mm next to it for $850. pjj342 632
Wow, I paid more for my SR9c (not dissapointed though). You should sacrifice a hi point in tribute to the gods, and you still wouldnt pay more than you would for your rifle new. I wonder what the dumb ass got for it when he returned it, but unless hes on this forum, hell never know the deal you got. Good stuff eagle, everyone here wishes they could get so lucky. Enjoy your $400 Arsenal, they are rare, and you may never come across that kind of deal again.
BrutalGardener 205
Hmm... interesting. These typically don't need to be "broken in". Seems almost too good to be true. Also, they are rather hard to bump-fire with the stock, pseudo double-stage trigger. I really tried and it barely worked. I hope that you don't have a slam-firing weapon. pjj342 632
Even if it was slam firing, its not hard to fix with a new FCG, correct? The only cause of a slam fire is the hammer not resetting while the trigger is pulled. If it didnt set when the trigger was forward, you wouldnt get off the first shot. If thats true, and it is slam firing, its not too hard to fix. Am I right?

Bump firing this one was a little tougher than my SKS, but doable with the right stance. I run my finger through the trigger guard, hook finger on belt loop, use left arm to pull the rifle forward and back, using the recoil to reset the trigger. Not very accurate, and mostly an ammo wasting experience.

I have mo problem bump-firing my S308 and my SGL21 (after I installed a single stage trigger), but I found it to be pretty tough with the stock trigger.
