k_dawg 0
L to R: .22 short, .25acp, .50AE, .500 mag w/700 grain bullet, 700 grain bullet by itself, .45acp, 9mm. With max loads, velocities can exceed 1200 fps with the 700 grainer in an 8 3/8" barreled X-frame. John Ross has published loads with a 725 grain cast bullet that he's chrono'd at 1205 fps. That's a bullet weighing more than three times what a standard .44 mag bullet weighs (240 grains) at essentially the same velocity.

BattleRifleG3 16
I'd like to see the 500 S&W in a rifle, particularly a pump.
Coastie 0
Very impressive. Thanks K Dawg.
BattleRifleG3 16
You know what... It just dawned on me that a rifle I'm conceptualizing would be perfect for the 500 S&W. I'm hitting the drawing board...
spooney 0
I'd like to see the 500 S&W in a rifle, particularly a pump. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The first thing I thought when I read about the 500 S&W was "that would go great in a 16 inch Model 94."
k_dawg 0
yea.. the "uber" 30-
spooney 0
Well the 500 in a lever action is out, I read a Handloader Magazine today in which someone asked the same question. The editor Dave Scovilli said that the 500 generates too much gas pressure to be used in anything but a BLR. That seems to pretty much kill that thought.

G O B 3,516
Lever action's have been made in 30-06, there should be no problem if you used one for 500 S&W, just make shure you use a reciever made for a high power round. G O B
