unclejake 428
Hey y'all, Just fixing to get started on the conversion on my S-12, and am wanting to set it up for quickest, best balance. Has anyone had the chance to use both the standard billet aluminum quadrail and the AR style front guard with a barrel shroud to compare which set up handles the best. I have quadrails on my rifles and they handle fine, albeit a little front heavy, but wanted some input from my fellow forum members before I spend out the bucks on the front end...don't have the money to afford both set ups! Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! P.S. All I plan to have on the front is a vertical grip and maybe a light/laser.
RED333 1,025
The S12 is front heavy as is, go light.

unclejake 428
Kinda what I was thinking. In the conversion video that Greg (Carolina Shooters Supply) does on the S-12 , he uses the AR hand guard with the barrel shroud, and it looked like a well balanced shotty, not front heavy, and it got me to thinking. evlblkwpnz 3,418
Maybe I'm some kind of freak, but I really like the factory handguard after I remove everything beyond the gas block. I get a MAGPUL RVG and attach the included polymer rail behind the factory sling loop. Looks great, provides a great handhold, and doesn't tip the scales.
unclejake 428
No, you're not a freak, it is a NICE handguard, actually looks better than some of the aftermarket stuff.
MrBoomstick 16
I use the css ar styled forearm and the barrel shroud and a gas tube cover, not too much heavier then the stock set up. Which is also nice with a few tweaks.
unclejake 428
That's what I ordered last night, liked the way it looked, and looked like it would handle well. Got a few tweaks in mind myself!
ramlake 98
I like the rifle furniture and of coarse real AK stuff
unclejake 428
Yeah, kept the OEM forearm on my 223 and added a picatinny rail for a vertical grip also..started out as a money thing, but turns out, I like it that way!
lelandeod 179
+1,000,000 on going light. I recently ditched my tri-rail setup for a much more comfortable RPK style hand guard from KVAR. Huge improvement in terms of balance, slimness and aesthetics.
