William M 4
Ok I never got much response on an earlier post, so let me ask this. How can I mount a Midwest type AK forearm on my Saiga .308? I see they have them for Vepr's as well. Would that be any easier? The current crop[ of forearms that fit my .308 just arent that appealing.
gunman1 1,753
Good question, I feel the same as you. Has anyone tried it yet?
sapper1371usmc 107
Have you checked out CSS and the two options they make? They also differ from most of the other saiga handguard makers as they do not utilize a pin in the gas block, instead, they came up with a secondary mounting point that mounts just behind the gas block. http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1047/SAIGA-RIFLE-FOREARM-HANDGUARD/Detail they also offer a quadrail of the above handguard. then they even offer an AR style tube that allows you to mount Picattiny rails only where you need them. http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1368/Saiga-rifle-forearm-Ar/Detail

sapper1371usmc 107
You will probably want the one made for the saigas and you will more than likely have to hog out the clamps that go around the barrel and/or use longer screws. The Veprs use a larger barrel, so you might not be able to clamp the barrel tight enough using the Vepr rail. And this is all speculation. Now people have taken Ultimaks and made them fit the S308's by just using longer screws . Fitting the MI rail might need the same approach.
netpackrat 566
I'm pretty sure the Midwest rail won't work because the Saiga .308 barrel has a taper under the handguard that is not present on other AKs or the VEPR. I've installed two of the Midwest rails (one on a regular AK, one on a VEPR), and the section where it clamps to the barrel needs a straight section of barrel in order to work. If I thought it would work I would get another one for my .308 for sure.
Norotor 1
It's possible, it just takes a lot of time and patience if you're grinding down the clamps by hand. I've almost got mine grounded down enough as it sits about an inch forward on the barrel away from the receiver. I used this guys project/pictures as a reference that it could be done on a s308 before I went ahead and bought the handguard. He also stated that they will sell the clamp separately if you call, so if you mess up you can start over haha.
