Interesting story and video I found while browsing some international news.

Rarely see videos like that on our news... pretty cool yet very creepy at the same time.

Robotic soldiers: what will happen to the world in the near future? VIDEO

04/10/13, Wednesday, 11:19, Moscow time

The company Boston Dynamics has published a chilling video of the robot PETMAN, which in chemical protection suit is virtually indistinguishable from a live person.

PETMAN originally was meant for testing the soldier's equipment, and field tests that may lead to loss of life, such as testing chemical protection suits with real agents.

That's why PETMAN is an anthropomorphic construction, that is repeating the shape and kinematics of the human body. PETMAN simulates human movements accurately. This is especially important to test chemical protection suits, because in combat with the use of chemical weapons, even such a small thing as a crack in the wrong-cut tissue can lead to the death of thousands of soldiers. PETMAN is equipped with multiple sensors that track how comfortable and safe will be a particular equipment. But the potential of the human-machine are actually much greater....

Cyberdyne Systems T-800/850 Model 101 anyone???? (corrected for Mr. Correctorson)

Endo.jpg

..and the artificial intelligence necessary for one of these is just around the corner, less than 5 years away.

The tech to build one is here now.

We've already got the tech for fully autonomous armed drones, fully mission-capable with NO human control, we've just chosen to keep the humans in the loop.....for now.

...NOW are you scared????

lol agreed, I am willing to bet $10 a Japanese company saw this and the guy is working on making one into a sex robot. Well there's just as many Americans into that weird as scene as well, but I'm betting within a year or two I'll be reading on Boingboing about this
