I'm going elk hunting in Dec and one of the things I'm looking at buying is a skinning knife so after reading some reviews I come across this Havalon Piranta.  It's basically a large folding scalpel, with replaceable blade.

At first I didn't think much of it until I watched a video of a guy quartering an elk with one.  And it only costs $45.  OK you have my attention.

Then I found out one of the guys I work with (who's a knife guy) switched to this knife for field dressing.

Guess I'm getting one.

So long as someone doesnt try to use it for something other than its intended purpose, such as poking harder objects, Id say it should do good.

A nice utility knife (box cutter, to those in the press) works great, along with your primary knives/saws.

For the heavy stuff, I'm a huge fan of this:

Looks good especially since you can replace the blade with a sharp one in the field.
If hooking up an insurgent/terrorist detainee’s scrotum to a car battery will save one American life, then I have just two things to say:
Red is positive, Black is negative.

Been checking them out too.

I would think you would have to be pretty careful with it if you are saving the cape.

Got a good old buck folder that I have been using for about 40 years.  I think it is lucky.
