Magpul PMAG 30 AK/AKM MOE Mag

So everyone probably already knows that Magpul is coming out with a metal reinforced mag and that this mag is basically for testing. But here a few pictures and a comparison to a couple other US made mags.

 

 

I love the design of this mag (except for the no metal part) and I believe once magpul does come out with a metal reinforce version It will be good to go.

 

 

The only issue I have found when using the magazine is with a VFG attached to the forend. I usually have no issue with mag changes but this mag is a pain in the butt to remove with a VFG. Every other mag I have doesnt have an issue with this (tapco, USPalm, and a buttload of steel mags). I haven't gotten to go shoot it yet, so I need to do that and see how tough it really is.

I hope they make both the front/back with steel inserts.

Make that sucker as bullet proof as possible.

 

ETA: Made just like a Bulgy Circle 10, three steel inserts, front/back and feed lips.

I really like the US palm. I have a several and have never had any trouble. They are very durable mags in my use with them.

The tapco seems to be thicker at the back tab than the magpul.

the newer tapco polymer is much more rigid than the earlier runs, I have some that I can bend the feed tower, The newer ones are solid as a rock no flex, just wish they had a stouter spring, going to buy some of there slab sides and try them out.

Another positive about the Tapco's is that you can exchange springs and followers with surplus mags and they fit!  I don't know if the magpul guide rails allow for that.  Someone please check that if you got the mags.  The other thing is the slabside just looks perfect in an AK.  I don't care for the waffle patterns in any of the three mags above.  Now the circle 10 waffle pattern is another story.  That looks great.

FYI, the AK PMAGs are prone to cracking at the feed lips.  Magpul has acknowledged the problem and is working on it.  Meantime, don't buy PMAGs.
